Black screen but phone responds

Welcome to Android Central! Any recent trauma, like a drop, or water exposure?

Try forcing a shutdown by pressing and holding Power and Vol Down for about 20 seconds. Then power on again normally. If the screen still doesn't turn on, then it has probably failed. Is the phone still under warranty?

I have an s21 ultra that has a broken lcd but is still responding, I can receive calls and alarms still ring, etc. There are a couple of important files on the phone that aren't backed up and I cannot access them by connecting a usb to pc, I must access them through the phone. I know how to get the files if the phone is unlocked, only problem is the phone isn't unlocked. It restarted and now I must type my password, but I can't see the screen, so unlocking the phone is next to impossible. I've tried find my mobile and mirror apps, but I don't have remote locking enabled and every mirror app I came across requires you to use the phone first before mirroring to pc. A repair will cost me more than an upgrade, I plan to get a new handset, but first I need those files, and all I need to do to get them is get past the lock screen. What can I do?

How about connecting a USB keyboard via OTG adapter and entering the lockscreen password that way?

Just purchased a keyboard and an adapter from amazon. It's same day delivery so in about 12 hours I'll let you know if it worked.

Yes it did! Unlocked the phone, got the files via smart switch, then I did a remote factory reset and ordered an s23 ultra. Tossed the s21 as soon as the new phone arrived, which was earlier today.

Thank you to everyone who helped!

That's great! We suggest this solution a lot, but this is one of the only times I recall anyone responding that it worked.:)
