On my S7 Edge, the screen goes blank when I make a call. It remain blank even after the call has ended.

To restore the screen I have to press the " home" button.

How can I prevent the screen from going blank during a call. I would not mind the screen going blank if I take the phone to my ear

Do you have a screen protector? You likely have something covering up or affecting the proximity sensor. The phone is not supposed to go black during a call.

Yes I have a screen protector/ The proximity sensor is still visible through the protector.

Is there a remedy??

get a screen protector that does not cover the sensor. My sensor and cam ar not covered at all.

Posted via the Android Central App

Get an app called Sensors Test from the Play Store. Then use it to test the proximity sensor if it's working properly. That sensor is responsible for turning the screen black during calls when placing it near your head.

Just a question, if the screen is black during a call, if you press the home button, does it light up?

Yes downloaded the app and ran it.
Not sure what it is supposed to do though.
Also downloaded the Proximity Sensor Test and ran it too.
Still the screen goes blank on a call but lights up when I press the home button

Would be nice to see the screen at least when I make a call from the palm of my hand without having to press the home button

Ah I see. Your proximity sensor is working fine. You're just seeing standard screen time out. There is no keep screen on function on the phone during a call. You could just adjust the display timeout longer.

What would suggest is to get Tasker. You can have it so that when in a call, your screen display timeour extends longer so it can keep the screen lit up during the call. Then it would automatically revert back to usual screen timeout after the call. Learning curve for the app is a bit steep though. But you can automate almost anything on the phone with it.

The sensor is clearly visible. so I am not sure what the issue is.

As soon as a call is established the screen goes blank whatever screen timeout setting. I now press the HOME button as soon as the screen goes blank if I wish to use the keypad or listen to the called party via the speaker phone.

Which TASKER app do you suggest?

As soon as I get a good padded flip cover I may remove the screen protector as the touch pad sensitivity is poor. Then hopefully the problem will get resolved

If you answered the phone while it was locked you're not "in the phone" you're just "in a call" which means you're under the rules of the lock screen.

So if you press Home to light up the screen it will go dim again very quickly. If you fully unlock your phone (press Home to light it up, then Home again to go to lock screen) you should be under the rules of screen timeout/proximity sensor dimming.

What is your screen timeout setting and how long to you sit on a call without powering on the display?

My screen timeout is set for 30 secs but this happens irrespective of what setting I use.
When I make a call and as soon as the call action starts the screen goes blank. To see the screen I have to press the HOME button. I use a screen protector but the proximity sensor is clearly visible. This happens irrespective of the screen time out settings. Your help will be appreciated. Thanks

Message to all.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

I removed the screen protector and all OK. The screen does NOT go blank but will do if I cover the proximity sensor.

Thank you ALL

OK guys am haveing exactly the same issue. I use a headset and have the phone on my desk during the day. I would like to see the display whilst I am on the phone. I don'tlike having to push the home button to hang up. Just a retarded feature.

Thanks in advance.
