"Black to come a bit later..."

I never understood why colors weren't all released at the same time. Kind of annoying, but I guess it doesn't matter that much. Just a matter of preference.

Economies of scale.

Shot an email to HTC about the black version and got this response:

Dear XXX,

We are happy to hear about your interest in the newest members to HTC?s family of smart mobile devices, XXX.

First of all the Color selection may vary based on availability with your carrier. Currently is only available in glacier silver. I will advice you to contact the carrier who you pre-ordering the phone with.

Also you can try with unofficial distributors like:
Search Results for: "htc one" - Expansys USA

As these are not HTC official distributors, HTC does not support or warranty any third party hardware, and its implementation is at your discretion.

Sounds like not all of the carriers may get the black version. I'm not pre-ordering this phone, I just want to know its availability. I call Sprint and they admitted after trying to sell me on the silver version for 10 minutes that they have no idea when the black version will be available, HTC hasn't said anything about it. Feels like I just got the runaround from HTC, so I replied with what I was told and also brought up the possibility of quality control issues with the black version and if that had anything to do with it not available at launch. Now awaiting reply.

Just stopped by a Boomsound Lounge and asked about the delay for the black One. They didn't bat a lash and said it should be available at launch. The woman I spoke with passed my litmus test of product knowledge and awareness.

They only had silver units on display, though.

I pre-ordered a black one through Wirefly....I hope they issue the black one at release or I'll be waiting for it I guess....HJ

Different person, more or less same answer. Didn't say anything about quality concerns though:

Even though we manufacture our handsets in different color variants, it is at the carrier companies? and resellers? total discretion the color availability of the ones they offer.

I'm having a hard time believing all 3 carriers and every other reseller taking pre-orders online refused to carry it. HTC doesn't even have it on their own website to pre-order. It would've been nice had they said, "The black model is running a little bit behind schedule, but we'll try to get it out as quickly as we can.", instead of this stuff. But I guess I shouldn't have expected them to. Idk, I'm not bothering with it anymore though. Sorry guys.

Yeah, but wire fly will take orders for it regardless of availability. Sprint won't let you reorder something they can't guarantee inventory for.

In other news HTC One for AT&T and Sprint: what's different?

Look at Sprint with the no branding and minimal bloatware!

You do know that was a unfinished version right? Phil has that same version..

Who knows what the final release is going to be like..

It was non final software. Hardware was final. Sprint confirmed there will be no branding. Phil also said so on Twitter.

I got an email from Wirefly today saying that the black version is being delayed asking if I wanted to change my order to glacial silver...I opted to change my order...HJ

Just realized I didn't post the latest email I got from HTC

Dear X,

I see that you are interested in the black version of the One. I will be happy to address this with you, X. So far from what I have seen the black version is not available for the US. This may change in the future; however, the color availability is generally chosen by the carriers. I have seen that Sprint is good about releasing different colors of our device through Best Buy. For instance, the white EVO 4G LTE and EVO 4G. These were generally released a few months after the initial launch of the devices.

Welp, that's that. Thanks, Lisa.

So I'm sure everyone heard of the camera shortages causing the delay of the launch? My theory is that HTC didn't get the number of camera parts ready as planned, thus they used what they had for the "poster boy silver" version instead of the niche black version instead of launching them both at the same time. Thoughts?

To be honest it doesn't bother me at all. I've only owned black phones in the past and wanted a black one. I looked over the silver and its a new phone. Time for change. I think I actually like it better. No use to wonder about something we can't really control.

I emailed cloverleaf or HTC, whoever is doing the promotion asking the same question. They told me that they had already pushed back the offer date because of the release date and basically weren't responsible for availability of different colors. It would appear that if the black model is not available by 4/30 we will have to purchase the silver to obtain the $100.00. I have already ordered a black phone from Newegg. They emailed me today that they were informed by Sprint that there will be a delay in the black model. Nobody seems to know when the black model will be available. I will probably change my order to the silver phone so I don't miss out on the $100.00.

Yeah, I preordered silver. I asked when black would be available and the telesales agent said "soon." I explained that I intended to preorder, but would prefer black, so she put me on hold a few minutes and when she came back she basically said "yeah, you should get silver then."

That's probably best if you want to redeem that $100. And yeah, I got the runaround from HTC as well. It wasn't until I specifically asked about quality control for the black model I get told that it currently isn't expected to come to the US at all.

I went to pre order the black ONE at my local ATT store and they only knew what they could read on the screen. It said "black not available for preorder" and "release to be determined". I opted to wait until the 19th for a better idea of expected release. I, too, will buy the silver if black is not available next week.

I have experienced this across multiple devices and brands, including iphone.

I had my preorder cancelled and had to replace it and this time around was told straight up that it would not be available for preorder for Sprint. No ETA still, but I bet it will be several weeks. It only makes sense to focus on silver if production is already too slow to meet demand.

I know some of you guys really want the black version, but i wouldn't give my money to a 3rd party retailer without knowing when the black would be release. Specially you guys with the promotion offer since it ends on the 26th if im correct..

I think HTC just has a delay as others have stated producing the black.. even tho the black is released in the UK.. not sure about other places in Europe
