Blockbuster has an update. Ignore?

I'm scared to even open this app after all the horror stories of it eating up the battery. I've never opened it even once and it's never been listed as running or eating up battery in spare parts.

I get good battery life so I'm not even going to chance it with this app lol

I went ahead and updated Blockbuster app and verified the BB apps still showed UPDATES were off. Will monitor battery usage.

I installed the update last night and my battery has been fine.
The updates did not re-enable himself, so it was okay for me.

I suppose using it to rent movies would be okay.
I would use the app, but the list of movies is limited.
It's unclear if you "buy" a movie what you'll be getting. If it were an AV file that could be copied and played to any device, then I would try buying a movie that I like.
Though I'm betting it's some DRM crap that you can only use on one device and can't stream to a TV.
I spend plenty at Amazon on MP3s, but I know what I'm getting and can do what I want with the files after I purchase the content.

I was actually thinking of trying the Blockbuster service out with Tron Legacy or Star Wars A New Hope, but they don't have either movie. Must be a licensing problem, I guess.

I dunno. I used to go to the Blockbuster store when it was open in my town. I liked it. Good selection and nice store. I don't get why so many people dis Blockbuster.

Besides the app draining the battery with updates enabled that is.

I used them a lot too in the late ninties and early 2000"s. I think the hate is just a normal thing. You know, Apple vs. Android, Coke vs Pepsi....Netflix vs. Blockbuster. People love Netflix, mostly because it's another way to keep from leaving the house. They can run out to the mailbox and get movies and games and not get too much sun on themselves. :D

Personally, I buy my movies on blu-ray or watch in HD via cable, so I no longer have any use for Netflix or Blockbuster. For my phone I convert movies...or now that it's out, I watch HBO Go...or I use the app you posted about.. Crackle :)

That makes sense. I did stop going to Blockbuster after I subscribed to Netflix. But then after having Netflix a year and watching all that my heart desired, finding movies and TV shows for my queue became a chore!

I haven't had Netflix for over a year. There's also NO movie rental places in my town anymore. I've been using pay per view which is a bit expensive.

I'm looking forward to Netflix again. I still haven't seen the last season of Lost!

I use Blockbuster and Netflix at home. I have a DVD that does Blockbuster and Netflix streaming (and Youtube, etc). I subscribe to Netflix but not Blockbuster. With Blockbuster I use them "on demand" without a subscription. I often stream movies to my TV using both Blockbuster (~$4.00 a shot, depending on the movie) and Netflix (streaming free with subscription). Blockbuster has more recent movies available for streaming verses Netflix where they have to snail mail the most recent to you (albeit, fast - a day or two).

Bottom line... if I wanna watch a movie they have right now on Blockbuster for $4.00 verses have it sent to me via snailmail via Netflix, I'll often choose Blockbuster. They are simply different types of services. That's all. Netflix is cheaper with less recent movies available for instant streaming. Blockbuster charges a premium fee in order to stream recent flicks. Different strokes.

I haven't checked, but I suspect if you actually updated the BB movies on the TBolt app (hehe - I haven't) there might be a decent selection there. I'm sure I'll try it sooner or later.

BTW, about activation (those of you with BB and/or Netflix accounts at home probably know this), it is a pain activating a streaming device on both BB and Netflix. The good news is that you only have to do it once (per device).

Tried it, terrible. Always runs in background, terrible video selection, and ui was painful to use.

Every so often I open the Blockbuster app to check the settings. Twice so far movie updates have re-enabled without my doing. Not sure why. So I turned updates off again.

That question was resolved a while ago. :) It's also not about watching movies on my device. It's about the battery drain the app causes. Try reading the thread and OP first before replying.
