Blueant Q2 headset and my Evo

Absolutely not! Fact is, being able to dial home or reach any person in your contacts with 99% accuracy should be a given,... not some far reaching dream. I must say, the accuracy when speaking out full numbers is quite good, but who remembers telephone numbers these days. I can barely remember my mother's number,... and I grew up there! LOL!

I no longer recommend Choice Dialer. They update it too much, and the last update is AWFUL. Forgot all my settings and no longer recognizes my voice worth a crap. Too bad I can't go back to the version that worked well.

When it works, leave the damned thing alone already,.

I think we're all directing our frustration at the wrong entities,... Vlingo, CD and the like. I recently learned that they all rely on the Andriod recognition engine. So bouncing back-n-forth between them expecting more out of one than you got out of the other is,... well let's just say we're looking out of the wrong window while at the same time we're getting flanked. I got a feeling none of these apps will meet our expectations until Andriod's recognition engine improves. Just a thought!

There's yet another update for that I just downloaded. We'll see if that fixes things.

Another update for CD? You think they're gonna get it right? Ever? I'm thinkin' they will.

Congrats on the Bear's win yesterday. Tons of controversy,... but a win is a win if you ask me! Ravens tonight,... GO RAVENS! Got my purple glasses on and drinkin' my purple kool-aid! Oh Yeah!

I really don't understand the controversy. The rule is pretty clear. Many around me knew the rule and were talking about it immediately before the call was reversed.

Really,...? Hey that's good news Cubfan! Were there any improvements in voice recognition,... or are we basically talking about restoring software stability?

Seems about the same for the paid version I have, which is really quite good. The same as it used to be that is.

My Q2 keeps disconnectting. I have to turn b'tooth off and then back on for it to connect. Any thoughts?

Yeah,... that's been happening to me too quite frequently here lately, starting about a week or so after I got mine. I have two working solutions that I've been using. The first is to stay very close to my Evo and far away from other devices broadcasting wi-fi and BT signals. My second solution is to carefully put the Q2 in my desk draw, calmly pick up the Jawbone Icon, then use it!

I know,... not really the great solutions I'm sure you were hoping for. But I thought I'd add a little humor,... weak I admit. Many in here have warned of the weak signal tracking abilities of the Q2 almost since this thread was started. I didn't listen! So now I own one.

No problems here. If I walk 20' away, in another room, and turn my head away from the source. I lose the connection or it breaks up. I stepped off 30', line of sight, and no connection problem. Phone in my pocket, on the desk, or in the same room. No problem. Maybe you have a problem with your piconet. ;)

edit: Just thinking outloud. For those that are in the know ( engineers and folks that forgot more of this stuff than I'll ever know ). Could the BT failings, of the accused Q2, be a BT problem of the EVO? I realize folks aren't having similar problems with other BT headsets. But I thought I'd just throw that possibility out there. "Hello? Hello? Anybody home? Huh? Think, McFly."

found the last post ( Jawbone Icon ) of this thread to be interesting

It's possible I guess, but my experience with both sums up to this. With the Icon I can leave my Evo on the kitchen table, walk down the hallway thru the family-room on to the 1st floor power-room, sit on the toilet and hold a conversation while taking care of stuff. With the Q2, I'm lucky to keep the conversation while just venturing to the walk-in pantry with the Evo laying on the kitchen table. For me, where the Q2 shines is its audio quality and feature set,... so much better than the Icon. But if stable connectivity and superior noise management is what you're after, then the Icon is Lord and Savior in my opinion.

Yeah! My bluetooth is finally dialing the correct contacts for the first time on Android. I've used 2 different headsets, both worked with my prior phone, a Windows Mobile 6.5.

12/12/10 update: I uninstalled Choice Dialer a long time ago. Vlingo doesn't work with bluetooth either. Sad that this is so hard to do in Android.

Haven't checked this thread in awhile, but I must say that Eric's experience is panning out just as expected. ;)

I've used a Blue Ant Q2 for months now. Since the Froyo update for my Evo I have had great results from my phone. I don't know if the new Google search is involved but, in any case, I get what I want 99% of the time now...from the Blue Ant. Yesterday, for the first time in a while I spoke directly into the phone and, unlike when BT is active, it did not read back to me what it thought I said and, of course this time, the phone missed the contact by a country mile. Embarassing, eh?

Have not read the entire thread, but I am having serious problems with my Q2. It connects and disconnects at will. It even will stop functioning while the EVO still showing it connected. It is not uncommon for me to hear the ring and the announced call through the earpiece, only to have it disconnect when I answer the phone. I'm considering the thought that I have a lemon. May go back the the Icon. Never had trouble with it before I lost it. I'm open to suggestions.

Reset the Q2 (listen to the settings menu). Call Blue Ant, very helpful but that's the first thing they will tell you. Also: Have the phone "not in pocket" but on your hip and not in your hand and on the same side of your body as the BlueAnt. Apparently this applies to all bluetooth. I'm working on my second Q2 warentee replacement and I notice major build quality differences between the two.

Ok help me out here. I know this thread is a month old but I Googled Q2 and EVO and found this and have a few questions. I have the EVO and I had bought a Jawbone Icon. I had originally narrowed it down to Jawbone and Q1 the 2 wasn't out yet. I liked how it said it stated the name and you could speak answer and ignore. I had a BB gift card for 15 or 20 bucks and I went there and they didn't have the Q1 so I got the Icon. it was nice and small and I could wear it with out the hook. No one had problems hearing me nor me them but listening to Sirius at work in my one ear it wasn't as loud as I would of liked it to be but it worked well. But then I had my Icon in my uniform pants pocket and washed it. It wouldn't even turn on then after so long it turned on and I let the sun on it for a few days in the window sill and it worked but no one could hear me well they said I sounded staticy and they couldn't understand me.

So I decide to try the Q2.The 1st review I read on Cnet the person raved about it with his EVO so I was sold. I had Vlingo on my phone already but there's a known problem with the EVO well they say HTC phones and it reboots your phone when exiting out of it so I quit using it. They even acknowledged on there FB page that it's a known problem that HTC needs to fix. My friend uninstalled his I just don't use mine. Anyone else have that problem with Vlingo and there EVO? I love using the Google voice search when not using a bluetooth and saying call so and so or dial Starbucks it's the best. Well I paired up my Q2 today I think I already had the latest firmware 1.1 but I let it do it's thing and I listened to Sirius radio at work and it was louder than my Jawbone. Plus one for the Q2.

Now with my Icon I loved how I could just hold down the button and say call so and so or dial so and so number. But I also love Google voice search and I can say dial and a business and the nearest one pops up and dials and if I hit cancel it shows me other ones near by to choose from. Well at 1st when I said Phone command on my Q2 it said my phone didn't have or support the active voice commands nothing came up. But earlier I noticed when I hit my search button it brought up Vlingo and voice dialer which I thought was the Google voice search and it wasn't and I had clicked it as default. Well it was wanting to know what I wanted to use with phone command. Can you not use Google voice search with it? That's my favorite! Buton my way home from work I tried saying phone command again and it brought up voice dialer and it sucks at calling. I thought I was checking Google Voice search and it was voice dialer. So I unset it as default and chose Vlingo. Vlingo works well dial so and call so and so and it comes right up but when I say like dial Starbucks it shows me them all and has a phone next to it for me to push to actually call. But my Vlingo made my EVO reboot twice tonight.

But I am assuming when saying phone command you can't have the Google voice search be default? I guess I'll uninstall Vlingo and try Choice Dialer cause so many of you here recommend it. That voice dialer works for opening stuff but not calling people. I just wish the voice search was an option and that you could just push the button on the Q2 and say call so and so instead of phone command and all that. But I think I am going to like the Q2. I had recently just downloaded a speaking caller ID app which was cool that it spoke the name. Icon only spoke numbers and the Q2 says names which is cool. I too wondered when I 1st opened the headset why it had a card and talked about getting Vlingo which I already had but quit using cause of the reboot situation but then it said download blueant app which I got the Q1 app but they both read texts. But the Q1 app shows commands for the Q1 I want a Q2 official app but this works and reads text and lets me turn on and off bt from it.

So only having this for a day I think I will like it better than the Icon. I know one person mentioned the app drive safely too but I think I'll uninstall Vlingo and get CD. I know someone said you don't want both. My friend uses one called Start Talking which lets you dial update FB status and more but I think I'll try CD. It had a better rating and several of you hear talk about it and like it. Does everyone here with the CD app have the paid version?

Edit: Ok So I got CD and it says this feature is not supported on this phone when I say phone command. But I tried it out without headset and it didn't recognize me well some things it was good at and some not. Vlingo worked better when I said call so and so but oh well. I still like this one and will keep it for now. But why does it say this feature isn't supported on this phone it worked before with Voice Dialer and Vlingo. I'll try it again tomorrow. It opened programs well and I said play song so and so but when I said send email to it said no email found for so and so and its in my address book. And I did do send text to and it was in 2 parts I guess cause it was long but it only sent the 1 of 2 and not the 2 of 2 and when I said update FB status it brought up the google voice and that did really well.

well, I think I may go back to vlingo, since this cd plus is very unimpressive; plus, you have to install another app called drive safe.ly to get your text messages read to you,and its always sort of flakey for me..
gonna give CD another day or so, and then its back to vlingo i guess..
just wish you could push the button on your headset, say call home, and it would work 99% of the time...is that really too much to ask?

If you use Handcent SMS, you can press a button and it'll read out your text (and if you have your bt headset on, it'll go through the headset).
