Purchased new Bose Soundsport Free. When I put my N8 in my pocket or anything further than a foot from the headphones it drops out. What gives?

Lead lined pockets? Seriously it should be effective upto 6m away judging on the connection between my note 8 and the Samsung U flex BT headset performance. Are you using a very protective case perhaps?

@bosbour good question re:case. I go with a matte black slickwrap to avoid scratches and smudges. So no case.

Do you get the same results with any other BT device? If all other devices have longer range, all other variables being equal, then the new headset is the issue.

I ran away from the Pixel, which has the worst BT in any phone - maybe ever.

The N8 kills it with BT. I made sure of this when I first got it - it was the first thing I tested. Strong, consistent, reliable, stable BT connections with everything I use BT for, and that's a lot of devices. So, what you are experiencing is not an N8 thing.

My first way to test is to try it with all of my BT speakers, my GearFit watch, my laptop and my car. If your N8 does not work across the board, just exchange it for a new one. You've paid far too money for that phone to live with a defective device. I know, I lived with a very expensive Pixel for a year - and that meant a year without enjoying music sourced from my phone. No one needs that.

Report back!

Yes, my fitbit alta hr stays syncing upto about 12m and my hearing aids 20m with no brick walls in between. (interton devices)

I don't notice a range problem, but I do experience drop outs at the gym sometimes depending on what equipment I'm using. Interference from all that metal?

Huh? I was replying to this thread to try and help troubleshoot the OP's issue. Unless you are the OP with a different username?

thanks for the replies. I'm going to make sure my software is updated on the headphones. these were just released by Bose so if they are defective that would be a first for me with any Bose product.

Bluetooth my N8 to a Bose Soundlink speaker every day, and have never had a dropout. Walk all over my barn (around 40 x 100 feet) with the phone in my pocket and it's loud and clear always.
