Bluetooth Headphones Horrible Call Quality

Hello there,

soo I have a very specific problem that is driving me nuts. I got bluetooth headphones a few months ago and until a few weeks ago, everything worked flawlessly. Then suddenly, without any update, settings changes or similiar, doing calls with bluetooth headphones became close to impossible on my P30. The audio quality is very meh, my voice seems to be cut off alot and I often get my own voice repeated to me even when the other person mutes their audio (thus it is not coming from their side). This is the case for all the bluetooth headphones i tested, although, interestingly, not the case for calls over the bluetooth call function of my car. Both audio and the microphone of the bluetooth headset work fine outside of calls, its just once "call mode" is activated that the quality drops. I have tested the headphones on several other huawei phones, but it works with all of them, its just mine that is bugging out.

Anyone got an idea? I have tried a few fixes, deleting the cache of relevant apps, reconnecting, deleting the network settings, stuff like that, but so far nothing has helped.

Welcome to Android Central! Any equalizer or Dolby options on? If so, try turning them off.

Thanks for the fast answers! Sadly, the problem persists in safe mode aswell as if I disable dolby atmos options.

Bluetooth interference can happen pretty easily. Wi-fi on the 2.4 GHz spectrum can cause problems, since Bluetooth also uses 2.4 GHz -- if you're using 2.4 GHz wi-fi, then try changing to 5 GHz (or change the 2.4 GHz channel on your router, if you don't have 5 GHz -- see your router's manual to learn how to access its settings).

If you have household smart devices (like wi-fi connected appliances), those often use wi-fi as well, which can also interfere.

It could even be something like a change in habit of where you carry your phone while you're on a call, because your own body can actually interfere with the signal (e.g., if you have the phone in your back pocket as opposed to a shirt pocket or in your hand).

I am hard of hearing and used Bluetooth earphones. I had no problems except the recipients of my calls complained that I sounded terrible. I quit using Bluetooth and shut all my windows and close the door to my bedroom to shut out ambient noise.
