Bluetooth headset requiring PIN every time it connects

Is anyone else having a problem where when i try to sync my bluetooth headset it asks for a PIN every time ? I have to put in the default pin '0000' before i can use it for phone calls. I cannot find any particular settings around this or any way to hard code it in. i leave bluetooth on all the time, but my headset is only on when i need to make a call in the car.
