T-Mobile Galaxy S8 Bluetooth keyboard - SHIFT doesn't work

I've tried two different BT keyboards with the S8 and in both cases, the Shift keys don't work. I can do Caps Lock/letter/Caps Lock to capitalize letters but that's a bit inelegant and not intuitive for a fast touch typist.

Does anyone have a BT keyboard working properly with the S8 and if so, a) what brand/model and b) was there a trick to getting it to work?

The keyboard has Android, Win and iOS modes and it's set to Android. I've tried playing with the Language/Input settings. Shift works fine when I pair the same keyboards with my Surface Pro.

I just discovered I have the same problem with my new ASUS ZenPad running Nougat and my almost four-year-old Kensington bluetooth keyboard.

I found two apps that fix this. 1. External Keyboard-Helper. I just tried the demo version. The paid version is $1.99, 2. External Keyboard which is free.
