Bluetooth Keyboard with N7 Problem

I'm using an Apple bluetooth mini keyboard with the N7. Works great. However, when I turn off bluetooth on the N7, the on screen keyboard fails to come up when necessary. All is well after reboot. Am I doing something wrong? Didn't see this before KitKat update. Just saying. Maybe only with Apple keyboard?

You may need to go to Language and Input and re-enable the Google Keyboard if there is more than one option there.

When I do go to input method, the Default is set to English - Google Keyboard, and below that, the check box for Google Keyboard is checked, greyed out.
Still have to re-boot to regain Google keyboard after using bluetooth keyboard.
I did send a bug report to Google this afternoon.

Interestingly, I have the 2012 N7 with KitKat, and it works as it should, going back to Google keyboard after turning off bluetooth.
