Bluetooth not always auto-connecting earbuds

Upon switching on Bluetooth on my Galaxy A23 5G, it doesn't always auto-connect to my Anker Soundcore P20i, and I have to manually select it to connect, and sometimes it does automatically connect. This only happens if I turn Bluetooth on (as I don't keep it on when not using it), but if it is left on, it will auto-connect every time.

Is it possible that the phone is trying to connect to something else at the same time, like some other Bluetooth earbuds or a Bluetooth speaker?

Check your list of saved Bluetooth devices on the phone and Forget any you don't need, then see if the problem keeps happening.

Does this happen if you're anywhere close to your car? My wife has had issues sometimes with her phone inadvertently connecting to her car if she's close to our garage, even when the car is parked and supposedly turned off.

I am fairly far from my car since I am in the stock room of Target at work when this happens.

Hmm, I'll have to experiment with this on my Pixel 7 Pro. If it doesn't happen on my phone, then it might be an idiosyncrasy of the Galaxy A23 5G, or possibly of your earbuds.

Do you have other earbuds or headphones that you can test with?

This happened with my Monster Achieve 100 Airlinks, but not as often.

This happens on occasion with my Xperia 1V and Soundcore Liberty 4 earbuds. I thought it was just a bug with the phone because I've noticed several odd quirks with it. Maybe it's something with the earbuds themselves and Anker not programming them quite right?

It doesn't happen often, and soft resetting them by placing them into the case until the charging light comes on will get them to connect automatically.

If I leave Bluetooth on since docking them they connect fine. It's only if I turn Bluetooth off and turn it back on that it does it. Like something to do with memory or something? Like does it forget "sessions" if you disable Bluetooth? Because my PC also has the same behavior.

My Bluetooth is left on at all times, so maybe not exactly the same issue.
I don't do that because my earbuds will sometimes stay connected to it even after I put them away. So I have my Modes & Routines set to disable Bluetooth when I put them back in the case.
