Bluetooth pairing problem with Android 5.1.1 puts device in pairing purgatory

I just got a Tablet running Android 5.1.1 and I was successful in pairing several Bluetooth devices to it. However, I ran into a problem when I tried pairing a Bluetooth keyboard. I inadvertently entered the wrong pairing PIN code during the pairing process and now the keyboard is in pairing purgatory -- the tablet recognizes this particular keyboard but will not pair to it (the tablet reports "Couldn't pair with Bluetooth Keyboard because of an incorrect PIN or passkey" ). I can neither remove the device from the tablet so I can start the pairing process all over from the beginning so I can enter the correct PIN nor can I find a way to reach the stage in the pairing process where I can re-enter the correct PIN. Does anyone know a way to fix this problem? Has anyone else also encountered this problem?

Make the keyboard findable (see its instructions) and the phone should "find" a new keyboard, so you can start over.

I tried starting the whole pairing process over from the beginning by having the tablet scanning for new devices and making the Bluetooth keyboard discoverable. The tablet did show my keyboard but when I tried to pair the keyboard with the tablet, the tablet, after a pairing timeout, replied "Couldn't pair with Bluetooth Keyboard because of an incorrect PIN or passkey". Apparently, the tablet remembered the incorrect PIN code I entered from the very first pairing attempt and tried to use that incorrect code to complete the pairing process but, of course, failed. Hence, the keyboard seems to be in a bluetooth pairing purgatory. The tablet remembers a portion of an incomplete pairing, namely, a device and an incorrect pin number. In this state, the tablet provides no way to unpair/forget this device so I can start over from a fresh beginning. Do you understand what I am describing?
