Bluetooth won't make calls unless my GS3 is at the call screen

So I've been poking around online, but haven't really found a solid solution to my problem.

I connected my phone to my car's bluetooth. I can answer phone calls perfectly fine, but if I want to place a phone call, the only way to do so is if I turn my phone's screen on and navigate to the call/phonebook area. Originally I thought it was due to the lock screen being on, but I've set up a Tasker profile to disable my lock screen while my phone is connected to bluetooth. Does anybody know how I can fix this problem?

Sigh - search the forums for "car" and "bluetooth" and you'll have your answer.
Does your car have the latest bluetooth firmware?
Have you gone into the audio profile in the car to make sure the correct protocol is enabled?
Do you have a button or something in the car that's supposed to initiate the voice recognition feature, so that you can do the old "call someone" type of thing?
