hey guys. just got my droid, im familiar with rom'ing wm devices so i couldnt wait to play with android.

i've had a stock eris till recently, but it became unstable after the 2.1 OTA update. i talked to my buddy who sold me the phone and i ended up getting a refurb droid for the cost of the battery, charger and battery cover. the problem i think this created is, im using my eris' 8gb sd card. the phone works fine but when i have update.zip copied into my sdcard and i boot to root, the boot loader says no such file exists and fails out. i have already gotten the phone from 2.1 to 2.0.1, so that ought not be the problem.

where do i start? im guessing this is as simple as putting the update.zip file in an appropriately named folder.

if your using windows vista or 7, name it "update", not "update.zip". windows puts in the zip for you, so if you name it "update.zip" then you are actually naming it "update.zip.zip"

im on windows xp

EDIT but i tried it and its booting now, said successful...

YEP im rooted, super user icon and all. time for a damn ROM. hells yea for an easy fix THANKS

mmmk, dl'd rom manager, backed up phone.

dl'd cyanogens latest rom, threw it on the sdcard, hit go in rom manager.

now i have a recurring droid startup animation, is that normal?

i got tired of looking at the android boot screen so i popped the battery out after it was obivously a loop.

i can boot into clockwork recovery via power on x. i've tried a couple options including rebooting from cyanogen, and from the backup, i just get the animation repeating itself. bout to try a wipe.

when going to a ROM that's a different android version then what your phone is on, always do a wipe. so if you want to go to a froyo rom, then you're going to have to do a wipe.
