i'm trying my hardest to root my Motorola droid. it came stock with 2.1, and i managed to downgrade to 2.0.1. but the problem i have is using the update.zip file i put on my SD card. when i click apply update.zip i get

D:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
--Install from sdcard...
finding update package...
opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

any feedback or help would be great. thank you.

Sounds like a bad update.zip to me. The 'E:signature verification failed' line is the key there. When the system tries to read the update file, it looks for a signature embedded in the package; so no sig = no install.

I think (and I stress think here because it's been a while since I rooted from stock) that ROM Manager out of the market will root it for you.

i figured it out... i was trying to name it update.zip... but it made it update.zip.zip. simple mistake, hopefully it's all uphill from here... do you have any rom recommendations for me to try?

I like BuglessBeast, the key is gonna be grabbing a nice over-clocked kernel to really make that baby fly. :)

i'd just like to say thanks and was wondering if you'd be able to help me with any other problems i may come across.

I can try, yeah. I'm still feeling my way through things with this whole Android thing, but I'd be happy to help with anything I can.
