^Try that. Also verify that the folder and file are there still and double check that the owner / group are correct: I expect it should be root root. If not, chown that puppy.

Yes, that's correct. Basically, anytime you add a folder or file from Root Explorer, you must set correct permissions. So, the correct folder permissions for the /system/sounds/poweron folder would need to be:

Of course! But if it doesn't work doing it manually, automating the process will just make the fail faster.
How about trying with all the correct permissions set on folders and files but using the stock zvd mp3? Does that work?
And on second though, I wonder if the nick and kpsmith disabled the boot sound files in the boot.img itself. One thing to try is to flash the stock boot.img and see if it makes a difference. I can get you a flashable of it, but wont be till later on.

Now open it up and put the zvd boot.img in place of the existing zvj one. Flash with sig verification off and you will have stock zvd boot.img and kernel.

Yes yesterday in did a nandroid restore of my ZVD stock and with that i have the boot sound. That is why I am think it also has to do with the boot img.
Ok, so mod that zip I posted and flash the stock boot.img then you can flash whatever kernel you want. You WILL have the sprint splash animation before the bootanimation but atleast you can see if this fixes the issue.

How will this affect the rest of the rom, After I flash thin can I still use picastick kernal and custom boot image. (meaning I use the blue android with the blue circle from the Reborn theme)

I now have the boot sound, (it now says "DROID" ) with the sprint splash screen.
So with this knowlege what can we do with the sprint splash screen (how to disable that but keep the sound)?

Ok, good deal! Getting the sprint splash out of there is a little trickier. You have to unpack the boot.img and remove those images. Another thing I just thought about is you probably lost the dalvik2cache mod that nick implemented in Reborn because he had to mod the boot.img to get it to work. BUT, that probably makes no difference to you blackops because you have everything go to sd ext anyways.
I'd be more than happy to get those images out of there for you if you'd like, but maybe you'd like to learn and do it yourself too. To unpack the boot.img look up dsixda's kitchen. That works well for unpacking and repacking the boot.img as well as other cool things. It only runs in a Linux environment though, so you will need to dual boot ubuntu or run it in a virtual machine. It says it also, works through cygwin but I personally went the Linux route because it's a great OS to learn and use.
There are several ways to unpack the boot.img but they all require Linux and I find the kitchen to be the easiest personally. Let me know if you would like me to do it for you, I'd be happy to.

I would appreciate if you could do it! No Rush though! I would love to learn how to do this myself, but first I need to learn on how to dual boot my Pc with ubuntu or use a virtual machine. Google here I come!!!

That is what I used. Then download Ubuntu, I used the most recent stable version. Never was able to get a shared folder working, so I chose to use dropbox to transfer files back and forth. I will try later to dig up the setup guide I used if you want. Basically you want to set up a Linux build environment. Just make sure your PC is hefty enough to run a virtual machine.

When you mean hefty I take you mean plenty of memory! I have a quad core, with over 500Gb free, 16gb of video memory
Sure thing. Ill see what I can do tonight. I'm thinking I will take nicks boot.img that came with reborn and try to put the boot sound files back into it. That way it leaves any other mods he did intact.

Awesome teamwork, guys! When you get it all sorted, perhaps post a how-to guide for the folks who might want to implement this? I have no real interest in committing this mod on my custom Opti S--unless I find a sound/image that I can't refuse -- but I might try it just for the experience and exposure to manipulating the files. 
Conversely, maybe a how-to for those rooted stock diehards and junior devs to remove it from theirs...
