Can anyone help me determine what controls the STARTUP time. My pixel 3 used to take only about 3 seconds to startup after pressing the power button. Now it takes about 30 seconds. It's not a critical problem but I hope it's not a sign of a future problem . Thanks.

You're talking about a cold boot (i.e., from a completely powered-off state)?

All-in-one toolbox has an option to view and disable Apps that run at bootup. While I do use it, I don't know if it really helps but there are a ton of apps that run when you restart the phone. Some you want, like battery managers or your local weather app or your calendar or twitter. But others that might just be set to operate at bootup might be unnecessary. I don't recall what options are present in the free version.

I'm no expert in this regard, but I too agree with the user above me who stated that you're initiating a lot of apps and background processes when you power on your device. It may take a bit.

I kind of want to power my phone off and then on again, to test how long it takes.

That link WARNS about widget loss which I did encounter a year or so ago when using Safe Mode. So since then I've been reluctant to use Safe Mode.

So while off-topic, anyone know if there is yet another app that can save/backup/restore my current Home Screen settings and order and widgets? I use a widget that creates "blanks" or gaps so that each page is not fully crowded with icons. Losing that is a complete pain. So a backup/retore would be very helpful.

It just means you have to set the widgets up again. Granted, that can be a pain if you use a lot of widgets that require multiple steps to set up the way you like.

Are you using the Pixel Launcher? Have you tried Nova or other 3rd party launchers that have a homescreen backup option?

I'm using the standard launcher. I guess Nova seems to be the favorite. Someone else mentioned it. I guess I could explore it.

Update... While awaiting responses, making no changes, the boot delay disappeared. I don't know what happened, but I no longer have the problem. Thanks for all your input.
