I followed the regawmod way to root perfectly but when it tries to push root files it fails. Need help getting root access! Bootloader is unlocked and says tampered. Said it flashed recovery but still the stock recovery. No SU installed. Help?

You can get tampered to go away, but that's not keeping you from rooting the phone. Here are the steps for the method you used in writing. From what I read it says to repeat the process if it failed the first time. Some get it the first try, some take 2 or 3

1 Go to Settings > Developer Options

2 Check “USB debugging” at the top if it is not already checked.

Running the Rooter

1 If you have not already done so, download RegawMOD EVO 4G LTE Rooter. Make sure you download the version for your operating system, x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit).

2 Double click on “RegawMOD EVO 4G LTE Rooter” in the folder that you just extracted.

3 Plug in your phone now.

4 On the screen that pops up, click “Root Me!”

5 Click Yes to continue.

6 Your phone will reboot. Click OK to allow for the htc-dev automation.

7 After completing the htc-dev process, a screen will show up on your phone (assuming you have not already unlocked your bootloader). Click the Volume Up button to choose Yes and click the power button to select it. NOTE: This will erase your device. If you do not want to do this, select No and exit the process.

8 Click Continue on your computer after you have done this.

9 After the phone reboots, skip through the setup process and turn on USB debugging
again by going to Settings > Developer options and checking USB debugging.

10 Your phone will reboot a few times, performing various functions (flashing recovery, doing local root). After finishing all reboots, it will boot into the phone and you’ll be rooted! Confirm that SuperSU shows in your app drawer. If it does not, just try running through this entire process again.

Have been trying and re-trying for over an hour now. Still no luck. All drivers are installed, .net installed, and everything runs fine until trying to push root files. Says error remounting filesystem as RW. Not much more that I know to do besides wait for another root method.

That's strange. You may be able to finish it yourself manually by flashing TWRP via the bootloader, and then flashing the SuperSU zip via TWRP.

For TWRP, follow the last method (Bootloader Method) on this page:
TeamWin Projects - TWRP 2.2 | TeamWin

I'm not sure if this requires S-OFF or not...I don't think so, you can give it a shot. Just download the file, rename it to PJ75IMG.zip, put it on the root of your sd card, reboot into the bootloader and it should install automatically. Let the phone reboot normally and make sure to take the PJ75IMG.zip off of your sd card, or rename it...otherwise it will try to install again then next time you enter the bootloader.

For SuperSU, download this zip:
Download HTCEvo4GLTE/rooting/Evo4GLTERoot2.zip at DownloadAndroidROM.com

Extract it on your PC, take the CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip and put it on the root of your sd card, reboot to the bootloader, go into recovery (should load TWRP), then install CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip. Reboot the phone normally (Reboot -> System) and you should have SuperSU in your apps.

That did not work. However, I am now rooted. So I used root checker after another failed attempt to grant root but root checker said i was rooted. So I installed Super SU and all is good. Flashed ViperRom. Never experienced this before. Thanks for your help!

Awesome, glad you got it figured out. Good choice on Viper... Enjoy your new phone :)

Out of curiosity, which part didn't work? Just want to make sure I'm not giving out bad information to anyone else ;)

When I went into TWRP to flash the supersu file it failed. Which is odd seeing that I had root just minutes after it failed. Maybe root was successful but flashing super su was not? idk lol I'm pretty new to rooting and don't understand how I was even able to go into TWRP without root? I don't know. All i Care about is this viper rom right now lol

Gotcha. Did you install TWRP with the PJ75IMG.zip file in the bootloader or did it get installed by regawMOD? I wasn't sure if that would work or not...

I didn't install it manually so regawmod must have.
