Both EVO and Epic are now $99. Which to buy?

Hi folks,

Am looking for a good phone for my dad. There are several threads on EVO vs. Epic, but at the time the prices were different. Today they're both selling for $99 (here and here, if you're interested).

Which would you get, price being equal?

I DON'T care about the keyboard; I am interested in their qualities purely as a phone.

The epic is a better phone if your into higher end gaming, and has better screen quality... Other then that the evo is a better overall phone. More solid feel, and the larger screen actually make a difference to me.

In fact the manager at the radio shack where I got my epic which I later exchanged for the evo said that all the epics they sold were returned for an evo, that should tell you something.

I returned my Epic for an Evo...I don't regret it one bit. If your primary use for it is watching movies or playing games, than an Epic might be the right phone...or an iPod Touch.

Epic has been out for like ten minutes and has been dropped by well over half..... makes you wonder..

i played with the Epic for the first time today at the Sprint store. not a bad phone - but compared to the EVO - no contest. the EVO is so much nicer IMO. bigger screen, better solid build quality, better GUI (ie Sense), and i don't like that slider keyboard contraption.

We have both and I'd definitely go with the Evo. Epic is nice, but IMO Evo is better hardware, better developer support and frankly I trust HTC over Samsung.

There are dozens of sites that compare the two and I don't know of any that choose the Epic. The real proof is this.

Go to any store and buy all the Epics you want. But finding an EVO is still pretty tough in many places. Our Best Buy sells out on EVO's every shipment they get in, 20, 30 or even 50 each week. They typically have over 100 Epics.

Nice to see Amazon with both at $99.

How exactly does an upgrade work through amazon? Sounds like a weird process.

I called amazon and the $99 price is for a new line only. Upgrades do not qualify.

Prices are showing up as 150 and 180 for me, am I missing something? I'm on a Pre and can upgrade now, and I'd definitely upgrade to the EVO for $99 but don't see it that price anywhere, is this going to be a price drop anyplace sometime soon or was it a mistake by amazon?

Assuming your dad wants more of a business type phone, I'd say get the the EVO. Better battery life if settings are tweaked correctly, IMO, a cleaner interface, and an easy-to-learn touchscreen keyboard.

I'm for the EVO. The Epic might be a great phone but i do not want any moving parts (Breakable Parts) on my phone. The touch screen keyboard is great. This is just my opinion.

Plus, if you're interested in rooting, it seems there are more ROM options available for the EVO than any other phone and it's the more widely supported model.

Its 99 for NEW customers ONLY. Not upgrade.


Edit : I must have been looking at the wrong things... cause I only see 149 now as well.

IF it actually is $99 then go with the EVO. You'll be getting a good deal on one.

Just played with the Epic today and the phone is horribly choppy and slow to react..Not fast at all buddy..Stick with the EVO
