Both EVO and Epic are now $99. Which to buy?

At $99, which is the phone to get?

Another thing..pay attention how many EVO commercials are still being run..I rarely see anthing for the EPIC

You're in the EVO forum...so what would you expect? :)

HTC is great with updating software. We EVO owners have their 2nd Froyo update, while the Epic is still on Eclair. This is one of the reasons that the EVO is smoother. It's hard to believe that the Epic is still on 2.1. Yes, some of that is up to the carrier, but Samsung must also be slow in delivering a stable version of Android updates to the carriers. Huge plus to HTC.

They both show as $149 on Amazon.

Hi folks,

Am looking for a good phone for my dad. There are several threads on EVO vs. Epic, but at the time the prices were different. Today they're both selling for $99 (here and here, if you're interested).

Which would you get, price being equal?

I DON'T care about the keyboard; I am interested in their qualities purely as a phone.

I too returned my Epic for the Evo at Radio Shack and have never looked back. My Epic was real sensitive, buggy, always force closing. Love love love my Evo and I used BB Tour before

as stated your in the evo forum, put this in the epic forum and youll get more going for the epic. I had the evo and got rid of it for the epic. I love my epic, havent had to swap it out, dont have force close issues, dont need the developer support b/c in my opinion it works out of the box without having to remove anything. I get no screen lag, my wife has never had issues with her nor has she had to swap it...same with my dad's epic. best bet is to use both and judge

The Epic was released two months after the Evo was.

I think the only answer you really need Is to look at the other samsung phones out there compared to other HTC phones out there...

HTC: Generally great products with usually one or two things "buggy" (left out) so HTC can eventually fix it later with a new phone! (Oh Yay, Who remembers the HTC mogul and HTC Touch) But GREAT software support.

Samsung: Great Products with what seems to be the WORST software support in the industry. (IMHO!)

Frankly, I love the epic, and would be very tempted to trade my evo for one, But then I remind myself of the above, And forget the remote possibility of even considering trading.

Samsung just does not have the track record with their OS updates to warrant a purchase from me, As cool as the hardware is, Its the OS that matters. We see time and time again good hardware gets killed by crap OS updates, Or good phones get left behind so they (and other companies... "Yes, I'm looking at you Steve!") can push new hardware with the OS updates that were desired on the previous.

I came from a Sprint Pre and love the Evo. Not missing the physical keyboard at all. I found I was always worried about the slider and things felt a little loose. Not sure if the epic has any of those issues or not...

Good point :)

As what was mentioned in this thread the Amazon price is if you are a NEW Sprint customer getting a NEW contract. Those of us wanting to upgrade will not get this price with Amazon.

So where is the best price for the EVO 4G right now? I notice that if you by directly from HTC they will also take your old phone in as a trade-in so this takes some of the cost off.
