Hi Everyone,

My Galaxy Note 2 died today and I need to buy a phone fast. I have all my contacts, Texts, Apps, Wifi, etc backed up with Smart Switch. So, after the phone was loaded up I told the guy we have to download Smart Switch and it would not download, not for this phone. I have two thousand contacts, appts, texts, etc that can't be moved over because the phone is gone. Any suggestions? AT&T had none, so I returned it. I don't want to buy a Note 4 or a Galaxy S5. I liked the V10 but I can't copy everything over.

I have nothing stored in a Google acct, everything was local.

Doesn't even have to be a Galaxy phone. LOTS of phones support this app--shoot, even the LG G4 does.

Just not the V10.

I don't understand why someone who has as much stuff that can be backed up in the cloud doesn't...I guess we have to have something like this to happen before we do..

Say what you will about OneDrive and MS Exchange accounts, but my transition to the V10 from Windows Mobile was instantaneous and flawless.

Yup I got to agree...One Drive is a breeze to set up.

What is side loading? Smart Switch will transfer IOS and maybe windows phone but the ability to use the SD card exists no more because new Samsung Phones don't have them. They took it out.

This is why I have my stuff backed up to my One Drive, Google Drive, AT&T, and Dropbox.I also have a backup on my laptop and a portable drive at home.I am not losing my data and starting over! I still really miss my Titanium Backup for apps though.

The only thing I can think of is buy or borrow a supported phone, upload your stuff to it, back it up using a cloud server of your choice, wipe and return the phone, download it from the server to the new phone of your choice. Sorry but that's all I can think of. Maybe someone will chime in with a better idea for you. Good luck. Hope you get your stuff back!

Anyway to copy to SD Card in the old phone, I know Verizon Corporate Store has the capability of transferring from phone to SD Card, don't know if AT&T or others can. I use OneDrive and the SD Card.

Essentially installing an app without using Google play store. You can download the apk from the web and install. Make sure you go to settings-general-security and check unknown sources to allow the installation.

My only choice is to buy at Best Buy, get a Galaxy S5 and the LG V10, put the SD on the S5, populate the S5 with contacts, and apps, transfer to LG via a wire and return the S5. I don't think the Smart Switch transfer with the SD card will work on a phone to phone basis. It will look to transfer the actual contacts etc.

Because there are tons of person information in the contacts, not to mention my own stuff that is kind of hidden but there.

But, did the MS Outlook CATEGORIES get transfered?

Yup, seems to be the best way or buy an S5 and do the Smart Switch transfer within the phone, then transfer to LG.

Ok, good news, I was able to download all my contacts into my gmail account via a Windows CSV file and it worked beautifully and fast AND it even had Categories, which windows phone does not have, how stupid is that? Just a question, will the Categories still be available on the LG V10? All that's lost then are all my text messages, which I am very unhappy about, unlike Tom Brady.

Going forward, there is no synch to my outlook Contacts, so I still have to add and make changes to both, since my mail account will be my Go Daddy domain acct.

You may not like how Outlook and Gmail Contacts work/don't work together.

I don't, but there's no fool-proof alternative that works as well as these competing services work ... and I've never been able to just have one list that sync exactly the same and I end up with a lot of duplicate Contacts because once the Contacts have been imported into Outlook, they take on some independent field titles and become a second set of contacts when syncing back to the Google side of the phone. It's maddening and wildly frustrating to me.

Good luck with your transfers - I hope you get a better transfer experience than I do.

BTW - I completely understand you keeping some things off the Cloud and only wanting hard transfers. It's not the hacking of info that bothers me as we can encrypt the hard files or the cloud files ... but in 10 years, I have witnessed the loss of data in Cloud based services just as I have witnessed a hard drive malfunction and lose data ... but the cloud side happens quite a bit more. I end up backing everything up on two different units, one on a hard drive and the other on the newer Solid State Drives.
I'm well protected from data loss.

OH ... and welcome to the V10.

SMS backup on the play store works great..and should be used on a regular basis.

Got the v10 and the free 8 inch tablet that costs $240 to AT&T, The contacts that I uploaded to Google went in great and with Categories! Now I need cases and glass protectors for both. I'll check Amazon. I made a good choice, so far!
