Hi

I've just bought a brand new HTC desire 12, and straight out of the box with existing sim card in it, and when I click in my messages and then try to open a message I get a notification saying some permissions denied you can change them in settings > Apps. So it doesn't actually open the message.

Never thought I'd have to seek help this soon after buying a new phone but modern technology beckons with it's sod's law principles!

I don't know what setting or what app it is referring to if any. I've had a look through the message app settings to no avail. Can anyone recommend how to fault find this to its root cause please?

Thanks

G

Welcome to Android Central! What's the exact error message -- does it really just say "Some permissions denied" without specifying which permission it needs?

Go to Settings>Apps, select the messaging app, then Permissions. What permissions are turned on and turned off?

Thanks, yes it does say that, no idea whhat permissions it means.

I've boxed the phone up as it's going back for refund, so difficult to check now but permissions settings for messaging app were empty and I couldn't change it, no option to change it, which I found strange. The message read and send settings were both the same, and I got the same permissions denied message when either trying to create or open a message.!

It sounds as if you tried to use the phone with the SIM card supplied with it. You can't do that. You have to open an account with a carrier (or MVNO) and use their SIM card. And it has to pick up their APN settings, which it normally does. Those are probably the "permissions" the phone was talking about.

HTC is usually pretty easy to set up. Almost everything gets set up - with the proper SIM card - when you turn it on.
