Brand new galaxy s3 not recognizing sim card

[AC Question]

I just got my phone and microsim in the mail and set up everything as instructed. I attached my microsim exactly like the picture shows with the golden chip facing down and it still does not recognize my sim card. I looked at videos and forums and still no help.

Is this a new phone? Would it be convenient for you to try another SIM?
