Bricked? Not sure what happened...

So last night I was playing with my Hero...as usual and it semed to be running smooth as silk. Noticed after a while that I had no connection to Sprint any longer. Tried to reboot and everything kept coming up as force close on boot (phone, gapps, pretty much everything that counts). After many frustrating attempts to rectify, I did a factory reset this morning and it's working fine again...although I'm having to dowload every single one of my apps again. I was very impressed at how easy I was able to put the pieces back together (Winmo was a nightmare for this).

Two questions:
  • What might have caused this?
  • Is there an app that can catalog what you have installed and assist with reinstallation after a reset?

Thanks,
S

some thing went wrong but thats not a bricked phone(as explained to me by gphil on here) a bricked phone is when you cant even power the phone on no functions nothing ......now back to your problem are you using a task killer/manager did you install any apps before this happened

I have heard some people say on the forums that having 70+ apps on the phone has caused this to happen to them.

Same thing happened to me - HTC Eris here. I had over 100 apps - I won't try that again!

I took it to the Verizon store, and their advice was what you did - a factory reset back to scratch. (sigh)

So yeah - I had to reload the apps. Good thing all my contacts are in Gmail! Yippee!!!
