Broken boot screen (still boots)

I tried flashing a new boot screen, and somehow messed up. The phone still boots fine and everything else works, but instead of a boot animation, I just have a black screen. I tried putting a backup copy in the /system/media folder but it still doesn't work. I know the animation is stored somewhere else too, but I couldn't seem to find it; is it possible it's loading that one? What should I do to get it fixed?

Data/local check there. Should always rename the stock from bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.Bak. this will keep the original but keep it from being used. Then when you want it back just delete the new one and rename the old to .zip.
