Question,

I dropped my Evo and cracked the screen and after looking through the forums Sprint fixes the screens for no additional charge when you have the 7 bucks protection.
I took the phone to the Sprint for repair and the repair person told me that the phone has a cracked circuit board and therefore they can't repair it.
My phone works like its brand new still so how can it be that I have a cracked circuit board?? Also, does that have anything to do with replacing the screen? I mean thats all I want is a fixed screen.

I have read things about people getting denied service when the charger port disconnects from the motherboard since its a "Hardware Issue". But this is strange since I just took mine in on Saturday for this issue (wouldnt charge or seen by my pc etc) and they swapped it right out for me

Looks like they pulled the "Hardware issue" on you as well.. Have you tried taking it to a different store and telling them that you want a new screen only?

This may be far off here but I did recently watch a video of a Evo teardown, and it doesnt look too complicated. If you were so inclined you might be able to find the screen cheap and just DYI

I would go to a new more friendly store. Hopefully they can help you out - that being said if your circuit board is REALLY cracked you may want to do an insurance replacement if you can.

In order for them to replace the screen they would see the broken keyboard. Your best bet would be through the phone warranty. Contact HTC for assistance.

Good luck.

The phone warranty doesn't cover accidental damage, it covers defects. It's not htc's fault the OP broke his phone.

Your Sprint insurance will cover it, but you'll probably have to pay the $100 deductible. I'd try Fred's suggestion of going to another Sprint store or two and hoping for the best, but if it's really got a damaged circuit board you're probably going to have to cough up the deductible and use your insurance.

Did you see the crack?

That's a fairly bs excuse unless you actually saw the crack. And if it's working normally, it's hard to believe there's actually a crack.

Go to another store. This is covered and the odds are of the board actually being cracked are probably slim to none if the phone still works.

Your cracked screen is covered if you have ESRP or TEP. If they don't have a screen to replace, they will order a replacement unit. Be aware these are on back order and might take a couple extra days to receive.

just take it to another store, or even back to the original one. ask them to see the broken board. if its really bent or really cracked, you're SOL and will have to go through Asurion. if its just a small corner of the board that's broken, and its clearly not affecting anything else, politely plead your case, and if the reps aren't helping, politely plead your case with the manager.

in my store at least, customer satisfaction trumps all else, especially if you're being polite about it.

good luck.

My wife cracked my screen less than a week after I had the phone. Went into the sprint store bearing the 100 dollar deductible but came to find out that since I had TEP they would replace it for free.

I went in today to have my speaker replaced that had gone out. I have heard there was a very big shortage of the screens.

If a customer comes in with a cracked screen only, then we will replace it. If a customer has board level damage, such as a cracked board, or any signs of liquid, then the repair is rejected simply put. Going to another store probably wont do any good, as the tech should have flagged it as dbr (damaged beyond repair). This has to be done, because who is to say your phone wont start acting up in the future even if we put a new screen on your device. Your best bet as mentioned is taking out an insurance claim. Any time a customer has board level damage, I always leave the phone taken apart, and show the customer. If you second guess that you have board damage, then have the tech show you the damage. Hope this helps...
