Broken Screen - Need to Access Files

I have a Samsung Stratosphere and the screen shattered last night. We are having issues getting the files off the phone (in particular, we are most interested in retrieving the notes off the phone). I have a Mac laptop that I using to recover files--no access to another Samsung phone to put the SD card into or a PC. Device still turns on, but screen is shot so we can't see anything at all.

Here's what I've tried:

1. Connecting the phone via USB to the computer - device did not show up

2. Using the Samsung Find My Phone tool - we didn't have a Samsung account so we tried logging in with our Google Play account with no luck. Created a new account and were having issues registering the phone with that account. If someone has a walkthrough for that or some other troubleshooting info, we'd be willing to try that again. Looked through several help topics and didn't find anything useful.

3. Downloading the Kies software - device would not show up.

Any other ideas?

If you can't access the phone your probably screwed trying to get the files via pc.

Your best is probably to get a microSD to SD adapter and connect the card directly to a PC/Mac and transfer the files.

I believe the notes app is installed on the internal phone storage and not the SD card. I've read about some people having issues connecting to a Mac that they don't have connecting to a PC. We are vacationing and won't have a PC for another week yet.

By default the Strat only connects via USB in Charge Only mode, after its connected you change the USB mode to Storage to access it, whether its a Mac or PC should be irrelevant, unless the default setting was changed there isn't much you can do. :-\
