Broken seals on box, S pen troubles, feeling leery........

First as to why I'm leery: I've only had my tablet a few days. I ordered my tablet through Sears and it came from a third party called Buydig.com. The shipping was lightning fast, but when I opened the shipping box, I discovered that both the seals on the product box were broken and I could just lift the box lid right off. (which specifically says do not accept if seals are broken). Everything inside the box looked brand new, no prints on screen, plastics still on everything....it didn't look like it had been messed with. It was evening and too late to call CS, so I did some checking online and found this to be a very common problem. I spent about an hour on the phone the following morning between Buydig (who did offer to replace it) and Samsung making sure that my tablet was indeed new and not refurbished. All well on that end. I decided not to worry about it since everything seemed perfect otherwise and I didn't want to mess with returning it and waiting on another one.
I know very little about the tricks and functions of my tablet, so I've been busy watching video's trying to learn all the things it can do. Everything seems fine and I haven't had any issues until this morning. This morning I discovered that my S pen doesn't open up the menu it's suppose to when I push the button on the pen and swipe down. In the video it shows that doing this should open a drop down menu. I've tried everything I can think of and I can't get it to work. Is there some trick that I'm missing? It seems to do all of the other functions I've tried, just not this one...... but then again, I'm just scratching the surface on learning everything.
I'm feeling scared now that there might indeed be some problems and I won't figure them out until later.... When it's too late. Can someone give me a tip to try that will make this function work? Otherwise I think I may indeed return my tablet.

Thanks!
