Question Browser Window Repeatedly Closing Since Switching To Gesture Navigation

I'd never been a great fan of gesture navigation as I always found it simpler and more intuitive to use buttons.

I decided to give gestures another try though to get a bit of extra real estate on the display and a sleeker look. However I'm experiencing some weird behaviour since using gestures with the screen closing down while web browsing.

After a while when scrolling down the screen, the display will lock and when I remove my finger the window closes. It doesn't actually close the app/tab as when I go to 'Recent apps' and tap on the browser app it opens up on the page which closed.

This takes some time to start occurring after opening the browser from fresh but then the window closes more and more frequently until I have to close the browser down completely and start again.

This is when using either my primary browser Chrome Beta, Chrome stable which I only use for A-B testing against Beta, or Brave.

Anyone else ever experienced anything like this? Samsung A25, Android 14, One UI 6.0.

Thanks all.

How close is your finger to the bottom of the screen when you're scrolling? If it's close to the bottom, it might be interpreting a scroll-up movement of your finger as a Home or Recent Apps gesture. Make sure your finger or thumb is closer to the center of the screen when scrolling.

Thanks for the reply but this is when I'm scrolling down, not up.

My finger is always roughly half way up the screen on the right but I've also tried various positions to the left of this with the same result.

I haven't been able to find any issue exactly like this out on the net so guess I'm just unlucky!

I've since done a little test by turning on 'System vibration' for navigation gestures.

As mentioned, the issue occurs when I'm scrolling down the screen at a variety of points and since turning on the vibration when the screen closes down it vibrates. I'll simply go back to the buttons which is no big deal.

When you say it's when you're scrolling down, you mean when you're scrolling such that the screen itself is going down (rather than your thumb or finger physically going down on the screen), right? Because if you're scrolling down on a webpage, you're actually swiping your finger upwards on the screen (which is why I was wondering about this in the first place).

Have you rebooted the phone after changing to gestures sounds like something didn't complete over
Yeah, I reboot my phone at least every other day.

It's just weird as there are zero issues with the display registering taps. As mentioned, I did a test since starting this thread by turning on 'System vibration' for navigation gestures and when the issue occurs it vibrates.

The even more annoying thing is that I was actually beginning to enjoy using gestures but no big deal, back to buttons it is.

Aaah, get what you mean now! So yes, my finger is moving up so the screen scrolls down.

Not sure what difference it would make though as the swipe up area is right along the bottom of the display, anything above that a swipe won't register. My finger is always half way up the screen when scrolling and the issue occurs at all different points across the width of the display when tested.

Which gestures are you using Samsung or Google's? And you have good lock installed using any modules?

I wasn't aware there was a choice?

The only option in Settings to switch between buttons or gestures is under 'Navigation bar'. In Activities, searching under 'Gesture' or 'Navigation', all results come up under com.android.settings so I'm guessing it's Google's?

For Good Lock modules the ones currently On and in use are:

QuickStar
RegiStar
Nice Catch
Home Up - this is just to change the Recent apps listing, home screen tweaks etc aren't relevant as I use Nova Prime.

I've also noticed I didn't quite properly report the issue.

Its not exactly that it's the browser window closing, but when the issue occurs the actual action is that it's triggering the 'Recent apps' screen (sorry if that makes a difference).

I just messed around with my Galaxy A32 5G, and couldn't reproduce the issue. Can you see if it happens in Safe Mode? If not, then some app you installed might be contributing to this.
I've since done as you suggested and the issue still occurs in Safe Mode.

It's often a slow burner from when the browser is opened before it occurs, either on my primary browser Chrome Beta or stable Chrome with no flags activated or disabled by myself.

I can't see it's a hardware issue as it's totally random as to when it starts, with what frequency, and at whatever point I'm at on the display. Plus as already mentioned I've had zero issues with taps not registering regardless of what actions I'm wanting to perform in this or any other app.

An insolvable problem by the looks of it but thanks for all the input nevertheless.

The fact that it's the Recent Apps screen still makes me think the phone is mistakenly considering one of your scrolling gestures as a Recent Apps gesture. If you're definitely keeping your finger in the middle of the screen, it definitely shouldn't do that, so I can't otherwise explain it.

You don't have One-Handed Mode turned on, right?

As I explained it's totally random regardless of where my finger is on the display and with what frequency it occurs, although generally it's liveable with.

I also don't use any one-handed options as I'm not capable of doing so without dropping the phone!

Something with the software I guess but thanks for your help all the same 👍

For testing can uninstall good lock then reboot the phone and see how it behaves?

Not that I was looking for it but I can only recall there were no third party apps showing as I remember at the time.

Anyway, Good Lock's gone (for now!) so we'll see what happens....
Also are you on May Play service?
Because it was giving issues on Samsung devices
