Bug when pressing Volume Rocker & Power buttons

Has anyone else noticed that if you press the volume rocker (up or down) and the power button at the same time when the screen is on and not locked, that the screen turns off, but the volume rocker acts as if it is held down?

For example, if I press the volume down rocker and power at the same time, the phone continues to vibrate even when the screen is off. This tends to happen when I have the phone in the palm of my right hand, and I turn off the phone with my index finger while my ring finger is on the volume rocker button.

I'm not sure if this is a bug due to the applications I've installed (don't want to hard reset just yet), a general Evo Shift bug, or if it is unique to my phone.

Thanks for checking for me. Considering the number of people that have viewed this but haven't reported the same results, I thought the issue was probably unique to my phone.

But, I went to the Sprint store today and was able to recreate the bug on their display phone. I wonder if a certain batch of phones is affected by this and others aren't, or if the two phones share the same bad app. It looks like I will be hard resetting soon.

Anyone have tips on how to make sure I can restore everything after a hard reset? It seems that nandroid would have been the best bet, but no permanent root seems to have limited that option. I've backed up using backup everything and mybackup. I've also exported my contacts to the SD card.

Further notes on the bug - I noticed that what usually happens is that the phone screen will turn off, but then turn back on showing the lockscreen. The phone will only start vibrating (if I've simultaneously pressed the volume down and power button) once I get past the lockscreen.

Installed appbrain from the market. Sign on to your Google account and sync all installed apps. After reset reinstall appbrain sign into your Google account and manual reinstall all your apps. Sorry! No automatic syncing.

I couldn't replicate the problem on my Shift either I'm sorry to say, but I'm glad you were able to replicate it at Sprint. I bet that threw them for a loop!

Sadly, I have to report that the hard reset (menu and from boot loader) didn't fix the bug.

It's strange that no one else can replicate this, but that's a good thing because I don't want a phone that has this glitch. I'll be taking it back for an exchange.

As far as the restore goes:
Backup everything didn't restore my contacts properly, and it had an annoying confirmation process for each application I needed to reinstall.
I think I'll stick with appbrain to restore apps.
Mybackup was very very slow at restoring, but it did at least restore my HTC scenes properly.
On the plus side, I got tasker to restore fully and launcher pro to restore (with limit on inability to restore widgets).

That's too bad. It sucks when your new phone/camera/computer/etc. has problems off the bat. I hope you're exchanging for another Shift and not a different phone? With so many others seemingly unable to replicate the problem, you stand a good chance of not having it in a replacement.

I like the Shift overall, so I'll replace it with the same. The alternative would be the Epic, mostly for it's awesome GPU. But, the SAMOLED's pixelation on the text characters is too distracting.

This will actually be my second exchange though. The first phone made a disturbingly loud snapping noise as I closed the slider.

Yeah, the slide out keyboard is a little weird feeling. I would prefer a spring-loaded keyboard like the Epic, but at least the Shift's feels solid enough. No Oreo effect at all!

I replicated the problem on my shift as well as my brother's shift and it was continuously vibrating after i unlocked the screen again. I had to lock it and unlock it in order to stop it from vibrating. Its pretty cool, but also a battery killer.

Yeah, I just exchanged my phone and it also acts the same way. I'm glad someone thinks this is cool haha. I talked to an HTC person and they hadn't heard of the problem before.

I'm probably going to get a case for the phone so that I don't knock the ringer button when I'm shutting off the display, although it may be more annoying that the power button will be harder to press.
