Buttons not working in recovery mode

As the title suggests, my volume and power buttons do not work in recovery mode and I am unable to select any of the options. Once my phone has booted into Android they work fine. Anyone have any thoughts? Could this be a fixable software issue or an unfixable hardware issue? I am rooted, unlocked, and running one of the Matrix kernels.

Thanks in advance!

Usually just rebooting recovery will fix it if not reflash the recovery and try again. Hardware is ruled out with it working when your booted.

Okay, my original post might not have been accurate. I guess it would be the bootloader that does not respond to button presses. I have to use ROM manager to get into it because the usual power+volume up does not work. Once I am in I am unable to switch between reboot bootloader, reboot, recovery, and power off. I am also unable to use the power button to execute the default option of "reboot bootloader". Any ideas? I've tried a few things like long battery pulls and multiple reboots, but nothing has worked.

Thanks in advance!

Time to use and to get into recovery....

Adb reboot recovery

Then u will boot straight to recovery...or u can use rom manager. I personally don't like rom manager so command line works for me.

Thanks for the reply. After running that command I am able to use volume up and the power button to change the selected option, but I do not have a button that will allow me to make a selection. The volume down button does not work at all. Power and volume up both move the selection down the list.

EDIT: I was able to get into clockwork recovery by flashing slightly older version of it with ROM manager and running the "adb reboot recovery" command. volume up and power work correctly, but volume down doesn't respond. It doesn't work well once booted into android either, so it might be faulty. Thanks for the help!

If your in recovery then use the four buttons on the bottom. I can't remember off the top of my head but I think either home or menu should do the same as the power button to select the option you want
