Wanted to check first before I ran into a verizon store,

Will they allow me to go in and buy a Nexus off contract and not have them activate it on the spot?

Probably grabbing it on lunch in the middle of work and don't have time for them to fondle it for me and I don't want them to. As long as I can activate it when I get home online or something along those lines. I expect they will hassle in some way or another but it should be a real problem will it?

They are going to give you a hard time about it. But you might have more pull because you are buying the phone outright, you own it on the spot, no contract to adhere to. Therefore they should respect your wishes if you dont want it messed with. I avoid stores altogether just for this reason. I prefer to open/activate my own devices rather then the Verizon employee do it.

Re: quick question

Yeah I wanted to avoid the stores all together myself but no pre order and I am impatient

Re: quick question

I did that with my thunderbolt, even though I was on contract I took the phone and did it myself cause I pretty much knew more about the phone than the bestbuy guys

Re: quick question

my only worry is the LTE sim card. first LTE device for me. does that get activated when the phone gets activated, or is it a separate thing altogether? i also would prefer for a rep to not get to mess with my phone before i do

From what I understand about the LTE sim is it gets activated along side the phone. It holds all your carrier info on it, not the phone itself if that makes sense.

I'm using a RAZR for the time being, and the SIM is supposed to become activated when you're activating the phone. It wasn't working, though, when I was setting up the RAZR, so I had to call in and Verizon had to activate the SIM on their end. I ended up being on the phone for 5-10 minutes as the woman tried to activate it for me.

You can stick that card in any Verizon LTE phone and it will work immediately.

They will give you a hard time about it, but INSIST on it. You deserve the ritual of doing your own unboxing. They shouldn't be touching your phone any more than any other electronic device you would buy.

Tell them you can setup Gmail yourself.
