buying a used phone

Is it safe to buy a used phone and still be able to purchase insurance on it even if i'm the 2nd owner?

I really want to get a google pixel 5" 128gb but they're out of stock at google, so was looking online.
I was looking to buy one off of amazon or swappa, but was looking at craigslist and such too.
I'm nervous, because I still want to get some kind of insurance that would cover it if it drops or any software/hardware issues, and am hoping i can still get insurance even if i wasn't the original buyer.
Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated.

Personally I wouldn't go there did a whole host of reasons. Main one being is what may be installed in it. Did the previous owner sign out of all accounts or will I need to chase around trying log out of other people's google account? How is the battery? Has it been in water?
That said, I'm sure plenty of satisfied buyers are out there having zero issues with their preloved devices...
I'm highly suspicious of buying used items unseen... Call me a cynic...

I buy and sell used phones all the time on swappa and have never had any real issue. For me it's a great way to try a lot of phones cheaper than brand new. I say go for it.
