Buying unlocked from Samsung and using on Verizon

I'm thinking about doing the same.. I want the Blue S9+, but want to use it on Metro PCS, which uses Tmobile network.
But dont want to lose the wifi calling or visual voice mail or the LTE Band 71 frequency.

Anyone know if purchasing an unlocked phone through Samsung for Verizon if I have to take their insurance protection coverage or can keep my current asurion coverage?

If you get hte unlocked S9 you can't keep Asurion for the insurance. The unlocked phone will not be covered. I know this 1st hand. I dropped my coverage after I had the unlocked s8+ with Verizon.

I pre-ordered my S9 from Samsung. This is my first attempt at buying a non carrier phone. I was hoping that I'd still be able to keep Asurion. I'm a bit nervous as the Verizon rep I spoke to told me there wouldn't be any problems. I was also hoping to score an Exynos processor

Won't score an exynos in the US unless you specifically order an international version. Even if you did, I don't think it would work with Verizon CDMA so you'd be limited to 4g only.

If you have an unlocked S9 and want to jump on VZW or T-Mobile to use their network features, just use ODIN to flash the carrier firmware once sammobile pushes it out. This will unlock the bands for use (all the S9 and S9+ hardware is the same, irregardless of carrier branding. Sure you may lose a little functionality (like Samsung Cloud access) and add some bloat but a lot of the bloatware can be disabled.

I have a pretty detailed post on Samsung Community board that covers what you do and do not get using unlocked v Verizon variant. You can see it in the Samsung+ app. I can link out to it tomorrow, I'm pretty exhausted right now.

Well I just popped my Verizon prepaid SIM into my Unlocked S9 and I have no VVM, HD calling, WiFi calling or standard Voicemail.
Awesome

I am with att and went with Samsung's coverage. It's the same price (11.99 per month) as asurion, with a $99 deductable, which is half of what you would pay for at least 6 months on asurion. The cheapest I've seen asurions deductable go is $112.
Samsung insurance doesn't cover loss or theft,if that is important to you
