buzz,clicking sound coming from the earpiece?

I have heard this type of sound on several phones that I have owned. My Nexus 4 hasn't been delivered yet, but I can confirm that my Galaxy Nexus has a noticeable (but not annoying) buzz on 2G (GPRS/EDGE) networks. In that particular case, it is actually slight interference from the cellular radio.

Also many phones have an intentional soft hiss from the earpiece that is called comfort noise.

There are a lot of potential causes for this noise.

I downloaded the app Earpiece, which allows to listen to audio via the N4s earpiece and this buzzing and distorted/vibrations is not heard. I'm thinking this can be fixed via a software fix?

I decided to call Google Tech support for the answer, and the fella I spoke with says the earpiece buzzing is not the father of your baby (/Maury mode) -- I mean, not causing battery drain.

He said it's a manufacturing defect and they'd be happy to send a replacement unit (I said, sure) but he assures that they've looked into it and it's not causing battery drain.

He went on to say Google is planning to send out an update very soon to patch a few bugs, including battery drain issue.

The gentleman sounded legit, but who knows. I hope it is true.

I urge y'all to call Google Tech Support and ask the same. Let's see if there's any consensus.

I have a workaround for the buzzing issue for those of you that have the Tasker app installed. It seems to me only an issue for me if WIFI & Bluetooth are on during a call. I have created a profile called Nexus4BuzzBeGone that looks for any call (incoming or outgoing) and sets the state of bluetooth and WIFI to off for the duration of the call. It will only turn them off if they are on to begin with. It then turns them both back on when the call is finished. Please note you may need to modify this if you connect to Bluetooth in your car as you probably want to keep this connection active. Please message me if you want to try it out and I will send you the XML profile.
