Cable for tv out and HDMI

Hello everyone.
I was wondering about what type of cable I will need to connect my E3D to a tv without an hdmi port. I learnt that an mhl to hdmi cable is needed to connect with a tv with hdmi port, but I am in dark about what it means (mhl). I know I am pretty much backdated when it comes to recent tech, but an explanation would be really appreciated.

I bought the same but find that it is not passing through a charging current to the phone even though the HDMI out is working fine. Are you getting a charge?

Sorry to tell you this, but if you're using your mhl adapter you're not going to get a charge.
The whole reason for the power in plug is to help the adapter push the signal to your TV.
