Cable or adapter for external microphone?

I am a recording engineer and do a lot of remote work. I have a nice collection of professional lavaliere mics (some self-powered, some not) with 3.5 plugs. Is there any way to use these with the EVO? If so, I could record sessions and FTP the resulting files to the studio immediately. Which would be a dream come true.

I'm tempted to just plug one in and have a go, but I'd hate to damage my EVO on day two.

I like to do field recordings with bi-naural microphones attached to a mini-disc walkman. I have a galaxy s (fascinate) that I'd love to plug my mic into and record audio from.
So far I haven't found any apps for the android that will allow you to record from an external mic. I do know that the Samsung Galaxy S has the capacity to use the 3.5 jack as both a mic and headphones (as well as audio out)...

So, I'd like to bump this thread in hopes that it captures some other people's attention that may know anything about this. I've jumped topic to topic on this subject throughout a vast amount of forums and am hoping that someone has an answer for this.
