Calendar and Daylight Savings

Since Daylight Savings started, I have noticed my Calendar and Agenda view differ by one hour for the actual event.

For example, last week, I created a calendar event for an appointment tomorrow at 2pm. Last night I turned all my clocks ahead one hour and noticed today, the 2pm appointment appears in the Month and Agenda view as 3pm. When I go into the actual event and edit it, it shows the appointment as 2pm.

I believe I noticed this starting earlier last week and figured it was already calculating for the upcoming time change that occurred this weekend.

I was woken up this morning at 3 a.m. when my 4 a.m. alarm went off because my phone thought I was in DST ... though Arizona does not observe DST.

I went to my date and time settings and unchecked Automatic and changed it to Arizona time.

Here is Arizona a lot of people had problems this morning because their cell phones thought it was an hour earler than it was.

Never occurred to me, it wasn't observed there. That makes total sense now, since AZ has had alot of minor snags w/ DST auto settings on the Rez. I remember busy threads w/ complaints early on.

Well then, it was GOOD thing that I had a rude awakening yesterday (LOL) because we have all learned something! :D

I'm kinda getting a little tired of the Time issues we are having in Az. Really this is the ONLY issue I have with the phone.

There is still a Droid X here in my house and the times on the text messages were all an hour off until the same setting was switched to Arizona time.

Here is the solution which worked for me after several days of my calendar showing up an hour earlier here in AZ. I talked to two people at Verizon who had no idea what to do, and finally I went into the store and someone figured it out:

The phone had (at one time) been set to Mountain Standard Time, back when it was the same as AZ time. Even though I'd fixed it some time ago, there were a lot of calendar events that had been created when it was set to MST, and each event was still individually assigned to MST. I had to go into the original calendar app on the phone (apps-->calendar) even though I use a nifty third party app, Touch Calendar (worth the $3, really). Anyway, Touch Calendar won't allow you to change the time zone assigned to each individual event, but the original calendar app will. I don't think you can do it inside Google Calendar inside Gmail, either. But if you bring up an individual event in the original calendar app, and hit the 'pencil' button to edit, you'll see the details come up, including time zone. I had to switch the time zone from MST to AZ time on each event or event series, and that fixed it. Of course, I had to make sure the phone and Google calendar were set to AZ time as well, which you've probably already tried.

In fact, I'd already logged into Google calendar and tried switching time zones, which worked to move everything back to the correct time on the Google Calendar, but the change was never reflected on the phone itself. So if nothing else works, go into the original calendar app and check the time zone assigned to each event and see if that fixed things. Hopefully this will save someone a headache.

I decided to test my phone and put it back to Automatic (from Arizona time) and my phone stayed the correct time and my calendar events stayed the correct time. The only problem I see keeping the phone on Arizona time is if I leave the state for whatever reason the time will not change on my phone.

I suppose an easy solution would be to change the phone to Arizona time just before DST starts and just before it ends. It seems the network shakes itself out soon after the change. It would, however, be nice if Verizon could just figure out a way to not include Arizona in its time changes. I am not awake at 2 a.m., so I don't know this for sure, but I don't think DirecTV has this issue and it has an even tougher schedule to fulfill.
