Calendar Notifications

I currently have my calendar syncing with GMail and several of my favorite team schedules. I am not getting any notifications from my calendar at all. How do I get the notifications to pop up?

You need to register your phone on google

I'm actually just looking for a notification from my calendar, not a text or email reminding me of an event. Is this possible?
