Calendar Syncing Issues

The calendar on my phone is what keeps me in business. However, the last couple of times that i have synced my calendar, the old calendar that is on Google Calendar overwrites what is on my phone. Is there anyway to ensure that my phone calendar is my main calendar and it should precedence over my online Google Calendar?

I am running Android 1.5 on a HTC Hero.
