Call quality issues

Preaching to the choir.

Unfortuately I have been assigned the task of admistering 25+ cell phones for a company that has 10+ many makes and models with only 6 being smart phones.. Was down the road with the Blackberry Storm I for 18 months and some major issues there.

I like my Fascinate. I would be sad to let it go due to another person's frustration.

I like the web browsing speed, the thinness, and the quick response when launching and switching apps. I can list about 15 things I liked about my Storm that the fascinate doesn't do, though. I am sure I will get used to it, and probably even like it, but right now I am seriously thinking I should have stuck with the BB.

The more time you spend with it the more you will like it. There were times where I hated the storm 1 and 2 but I learned to live with it. Now it's strange how I miss the storm 2 but the fascinate does things so much better. The only reason I will go to a droid x is the voice quality. But than again that phone to0 isn't with out its shortcomings. Maybe go back to blackberry? Um....no....not if they are not up to par like the androids or iphone for the time being.

But now that you decided on the X, do you miss the Fascinate at all? Or are you like "Glad I switched, wish I would have done it long ago". Or is there one thing about the X that makes you regret returning the Fascinate? Just curious

@DroidDev...kind of curious of that myself...do you miss the Fascinate at all??

I am not saying the voice quality issue is overblown, because it is annoying 'at times'. BUT, with that said, VZW (several sources) says there is not a mass return because of this reason, and to be honest, most of the time call quality is very good.

To comment on sticking with BB...back several months ago we tried the Incredible and I switched back to BB a week later regretting ever making the move. Because we (at our company) were so set in our ways.

Now I look at Blackberry and wonder how I stuck with it for so long. I can seriously see the corporate nitch that BB serves. The person they don't want messing with their phone. "Here is your phone..make business calls, and answer emails...thats it!"

But we all know that consumer market drives the business market. I.E. The 'younger' guy/lady with the smart phone that loves it will be the corporate leader or supervisor in X (no pun intended) amount of years and they will dictate this type of phone...

I would stay stick with Android, once u get used to it, you wonder how you 'suffered' with BB for as long as u did...

I there are things I miss about the Fascinate like the amazing camera. That thing could really take some great photos. I liked the form factor a little but more. The screen was better I think and the GPU in it played movies really well.

Thats not to say that the Droid X is a lesser device.

The Droid X has better call quality, better video recording, HDMI out, and more support.

I think the main thing that is making it so hard for people to choose is that what the Fascinate is missing to make it perfect the Droid X has and what the Droid X is missing to make it perfect the Fascinate has.

Here is how I chose:

I basically said do I want good reliable call quality and strong signal in most areas or do I want the better camera and GPU?

I decided that I needed better call quality so I traded for the X. After having both I know that was a good decision. Even though there are things I truly miss about my fascinate.

Issues like the GPS and stuff wasnt an issue because I knew that would be fixed. I didnt even consider the GUI for the two phones. As either way Touch Wiz and Ninja Blur were getting replaced by Launcher Pro Plus.

In some respects though, the word better is very relative.

Better pictures. The X pics are very good.

Call quality: agreed better but I think this issue has been blown out to be worse than it really is with the Fascinate.

Once Froyo is pushed it should become even more interesting.

Well it has been proven that the camera is much better on the Fascinate. And for call quality I am throwing in reception as well.

The fascinate has a Carl Ziess designed lens and great image processor that makes them super clear and crisp

After I polled all the current Fascinate users (6) - all but one said that they are satisfied with the function of the device ‘including call quality’. There was one hold out - however she rarely works 'with' the device and believes that the object should just know what she wants and should accommodate her will when wished for....

I fear the day she gets her wish.

Basically the issue of call quality is not so great that it will facilitate a return of hardware for all 6 parties.

*228, option 2 reduced the side tone on my 2nd Fascinate. I had issues with that one too and am now on my 3rd Fascinate. This trick has not reduced the side tone on this one. Wonder if it will on my 4th, 5th, 100th Fascinate? I'll keep returning it until they give me one that works.

Thats what I did with my Eris. Except I never got one that worked....
