Call quality sucks

I took my own advice and called VZW. I spoke to a technical support person.

She said she had not heard any issues regarding call quality.
She looked through her computer for issues and couldn't find anything.

I got the exact same response when I asked about the GPS, and we all know how wide-spread the GPS issue is, so...

You know, I never had this problem.... until recently. Now all of a sudden my call quality sucks. Probably going to do a factory reset once Froyo comes in and see if that fixes it.

Wow, nothing like a good old "OMG user error theres no problemz take ur phone back lol" to make me feel right at home after coming from the Storm forums.

With that being said, I do notice pretty bad call quality, and it's as if the mic is just too sensitive. If i talk in a normal conversational tone and volume, i can hear clipping in the earpiece and the person im calling will complain about robot-sounding audio. I confirmed this the way i always test call quality, setting my voicemail message and listening to it on the cellphone and with a good landline phone. If I talk in a bit of a muted tone, the voice quality is *great*...

Is there any mic adjustment at all on the phone? Is it tied at all to the earpiece volume setting? I usually leave the earpiece volume at the lowest possible setting (i have done this on every phone i have ever had) since I guess my ears are sensitive or maybe I press the thing too hard to my head or whatever.

Is there a chance that low earpiece volume means mic volume will be amplified more to compensate for what the phone probably figures is a quiet environment? I may play with this a bit and see if anything sounds different.

That is great advice. I know that there are settings you can access in the hidden menus. I had the exact same problem with my HTC Eris. I call *611 and the technician called me on another line and guided me through the process of changing towers and pointing my device to the correct set of towers and changed the frequency ect. After that my sidetone was GONE, call quality was great.

Also prior to that I had the issue where I would call someone and it would not ring I would just hear myself as if I were standing in front of me talking. However it was ringing and people on the other end could hear me but I would have no idea I was connected. Calling *611 and working with the technician also fixed that.

Its laughable when you see someone return a perfectly good phone thinking its gone wonky when in reality all it needs it to be tweaked to the correct settings. Sometimes guys, the carriers dont ALWAYS get it right. There are specific settings to your location and going *228 doesnt always work right.

Just called this morning and the tech told me there is no such thing as internal settings and advised me to get a different phone.

Thats odd. The tech I talked too went through the menus with me changing all kinds of settings in the hidden menus. Asking me things like, "Ok now enter this...ok now for this value tell me what it says. Ok that value is not right, change it to this one." ect ect.

Sounds like you got an idiot.

I have never talked to anyone at Verizon willing to do more than walking through a battery pull, or "updating the settings" in their computer system that "should improve the issue"... Do you remember what specific settings he took you to? Call volume?

I have noticed the way my voice sounds in the ear piece (overdriven) but for the most part the caller sounds fine.

There is an occasional drop out but that is associated with cell tower placements in the rural area where I live.

All conversations with Verizon tech support has always lead to a few minor setting adjustments but no solutions. I believe you play 'tech roulette’ from day to day: I have had a few who can actually negotiate their way through some sub menus.. the rest are call center flunkies making a few bucks answering calls.

No not call volume. I will try to find out what it was as it was a while back. All I cam remember right now is that is was much more technical then call volume. Lot o' acronyms. I remember that.

For those of you, like me, who came from the Blackberry world....all the leaks they have in the OS world always include a different radio tweaking.

I can always remember people make hybrid OS's because the radio on version xyz is better than on abc.

I am curious when Froyo is released if Samsung will include fixes for the radio as I think some posters are right. The mic is almost too sensitive.

I would like to think that Samsung made enough Galaxy phones prior to the Fascinate that they knew what they were doing, and it is not hardware related.

As I have posted before people have mentioned that the "GPS FIX" that is included in the Froyo build also will fix the sidetone issue as they run hand in hand.

So at this point I will still believe.........

I think Samsung didn't account for deeper American voices... It's almost as if it's just one pitch of my voice that makes the audio clip; if I talk softly or in a little bit of a higher pitch the quality is great. I am almost tempted to go buy a bluetooth headset (my previous one got eaten by my dog) just to see if the problem persists.

My problem is people complain about way too much background noise. Like it picks up every detail and the people on the other end get annoyed.
