Call waiting issue?

Disclaimer: Admittedly, this is my first smart phone, AND my first Android phone. There is a distinct possibility this is a case of operator error, or maybe I'm just missing something... I found the owner's manual on the phone here. (skip to page 92)

I think I'm having an issue with Call Waiting on my NS4g. When I receive a second call, the incoming call screen looks just like any other phone call (i.e. I get the CID info and two slider options for Talk or Ignore). If I slide the 'Talk' slider, it connects me with the second call, and I get the 'Swap' icon, but it does nothing. Also, I don't see the second CID info shown as 'on hold' on the screen either.

The only way I can return to the first call is by completely ending the second call, then waiting for the first call to ring back through my phone.

I'm having a similar problem with the conference calling as well. Once the second call is connected, the 'Manage' button on the screen does nothing. I can either talk to everyone or disconnect from everyone. I cannot disconnect/talk to any one person like the manual says I should be able to.

What am I missing here?

Spent an hour on the phone with Sprint earlier... long story short, got nowhere.

First gal seemed like she really wanted to help, she pulled up the manual and read it herself, took down my description, and said, "This isn't in the 'known issues' list, so I'm going to send you over to the tech support desk" which she promptly did.

The second gal was an idiot. As I described the problem to her, she told me I was doing it wrong and trying to get the phone to do too much and 'it doesn't work that way'... I wanted to reach through the phone and smack her because I'm looking at the instructions and it is, in fact, supposed to work exactly that way, according to page 92 of the manual.

The third gal didn't quite grasp what I was talking about either, but after I explained it (for the 5th time in 45 minutes) she said she was first going to send a few updates over the air to me, and we'd need to do a hard battery-out reset of the phone. Then, after a couple minutes on hold, she was going to connect me with her supervisor. A few more minutes on hold, and the supervisor is too busy right now, I'll get a call back within no more than 5 minutes.

Lunchtime was over and I had to go back to work. Of course, no call back yet. I'm not holding my breath. I'll call and raise hell after the baby goes to bed tonight. It'll give the night shift crew something to work on.
