So ever since I got my S21 Ultra when someone calls me it doesn't show the name of their business calling me for example. On my unlocked Note 20 Ultra it would show the name of the business or whoever was calling me.

I have the Tmobile version of the S21 Ultra. I thought there was a place in settings to change this?

Phone - Settings - Caller ID and Spam.... See if that is turned on?

it'll show scam likely sometimes but otherwise if someone calls me who's not a contact is just shows the number unlike my unlocked Note 20 Ultra. I wonder if it's because I have the Tmobile variant it doesn't show it and wants you to pay for the Tmobile caller ID?

This could be the reason. I cannot comment on how T-Mobile works, but hope you get to talk with a real good support person who understands your issue and addresses that correctly, other wise, I don't hope much from the Tier 1.

I have Verizon locked and it does the same thing. I believe the carrier is holding this information back as they want to sell you their Caller ID package.
Verizon wants to charge me $2.99 a month for call filter plus just to show the name & number. Maybe T-Mobile is pulling this same crap?

Could be. They used to charge $5 a month. THIS is why I always buy unlocked but due to the semi conductor shortage there was no unlocks from Samsung at the time. If I get the Fold 3 it WILL be unlocked model.

Im on Tmobile and a caller/business just recently called me and I saw the business name in the Caller ID. This was a billing company that I did not have in my contacts. There are other calls that are not in my contacts that I only see the number, but no other info.

Maybe it is dependant on the caller/business if they have CallerID on because I think as a caller, one has the option to have ID shown or not?

I have found with carrier version of Samsung phone it does not give that option. I am on Verizon.
So if I have to buy a carrier version phone, I used Samsung Odin to flash the unlocked system version of the operating system and that gives me that option. The unlocked operating system also lets me take calls and get text messages on my S7 tablet.

Yes true !

the caller ID feature is very likely carrier dependent, have you spoken to your carrier to check if your device is able to use the caller ID feature?
Sometimes the carriers only enable certain features to specific models, which is sort of a jerk move.
If they say you should be able to use the feature, then next time you have the ID not show... you can report the issue to Samsung Members app so samsung can take logs and analyze what the cause of the issue might be. When reporting, categorize as Network/WiFi

My Note 20 ultra unlocked had it as well as my Note 10 Plus, Note 9, Note 8, S8 Unlocked, Note 7 unlocked. Last Tmobile branded phone I had was S7 Edge to replace my Note 7 due to recall. Tmobile you used to have to pay 4.95 a month when Caller ID first came out. Maybe the unlocked automatically had it. All I know for the Fold 3 I'm getting unlocked even if I have to wait on samsung.com if they're out of stock. Unlocked just runs better I think.

I figured it out. Stupid me it took only a few seconds on google. On your tmobile branded phone there is an app called Scam Shield It used to be called name ID. You go in there and switch caller ID on. Apparently the default setting when you buy the phone is in the off position.

I didn't know this as it was early 2017 since the last time I had a Tmobile branded phone. The unlocked versions automatically had caller ID. There is a premium version but the free version still shows numbers too.

I have... well... not exactly the opposite problem. For me Called ID hasn't been displaying Called ID unless the caller is in my contacts on both T-Mobile carrier locked and unlocked phones. My previous phone was T-Mobile carrier locked and it didn't work, my current one is unlocked and it still doesn't work. I figured it was just a T-Mobile issue.

But now I am wondering. I have called ID turned on in two places. The first being in the Samsung phone App (Settings --> Called ID and Spam Protection) the second being the T-Mobile Scam Shield app, which I downloaded to my unlocked phone.

The Caller ID and Spam Protection in the Samsung Phone App use Hiya to identify Spam Callers as well as callers not in your contacts. I believe T-Mobile Scam Shield is also powered by Hiya. Could having it enabled in both places be causing me grief?

I have the same setup as you. Unlocked S21 ultra, on T-mobile. I have both Samsung Phone App Caller ID and Spam Protection ON, as well as Scam Shield app and Caller ID on.

I did notice that when a business did call me one time, it did show the ID and business name, and it was not in my contacts. There are some calls, however, that did not show the caller ID when calling me.

I never really took notice if when I was on At&T, Caller ID showed more for non contacts.

Maybe it is a T-mobile thing? I do notice, however, that I get a bunch more spam calls after switching to T-mobile.

Thanks for the reply! I went back through my call logs after reading your post and yes, my experience is actually more similar to what you described. I DO have a few from businesses that were not in my call list that did appear without being in my contacts list.

But then several batches of numbers that appear with no name and even my wife's phone number, which is also on T-Mobile, didn't appear until I added it to contacts.

I do wonder if it isn't a T-Mobile thing and now I am wondering if it is strictly cell numbers that don't appear vs land lines that were used from the business calls where I did receive caller info.
