Calls are going straight to voicemail...

Hello AndroidCentral,

When I get a call the following things are happening: My phone will NOT ring, it will not show up as a missed call in the call logs, and lastly the only way I even know I received the call is if the caller leaves a voicemail. This all started about 3 weeks ago and was not doing this when I first activated the phone in December 2014. This is unacceptable and cannot continue to happen because I use this phone for business and personal use.
I want to make it clear that this does not happen with every phone call I receive. If this is happening to anyone please tell me what I can do to stop it. Any suggestions or insight would be greatly appreciated.

It would help a lot to know what phone you have and the Android version. Also, have you contacted your service provider and if yes, what they said.

Bring the phone into your carrier and ask them to investigate it. The cause could be in the phone, but there are a lot more places at their end that could cause it than there are in the phone. (Even an intermittent SIM card could be the cause. When it stops you're off the network [like the phone being turned off], so the call goes directly to voicemail.)

I just got done chatting with at&t and he had me shut off the phone and he "reactivated it" or something to that nature. He told me to have 2 land lines and 2 call phones call it and I did. They all went through. I am not saying it's fixed because only time will tell that. I will reply to this if the problem happens again.

If you have any more trouble, try going to: Settings > Sound and notification > Interruptions and make sure you have the options there set correctly.

I had this problem on a Moto G (1st Gen) & took into the Meteor shop. They replaced sim card but problem persisted. They said it was a software problem or conflict with another app. There was one obvious culprit on my phone which was 'Call Blocker' app! I uninstalled and restarted phone and (fingers crossed) phone has started to receive calls. (The app was only meant to block a couple of numbers but for some reason blocked everything) So uninstalling a 3rd party phone app may be the solution for some

Turn off WiFi calling.

It is connected to the WiFi, and the WiFi radio is asleep when the screen is off.

By defult a Tmo phone has WiFi calling on..... And it doesn't work for..... Beans

We have WiFi calling on several phones in our immediate and extended family and friends. Everybody really likes it. Works perfectly for me, even the handoff of calls between WiFi and cell towers.

It is very dependent on phone and software.

On my one S, used to work great until the last upgrade, now it is virtually useless.

On my G3 with Kitkat, it was FANTASTIC. Now with 5.0...... Not so much. .

I've talked to Tmo several times on it, as the WiFi tends to run down the battery, first thing they do is shut it down when the screen shuts off.

Well, ones I know of are 4 Nexus 6, 2 Sony Z3, a Note5, a S6, an iPhone 6 and a couple of cheaper phones I can't remember. A pretty wide selection and no complaints I'm aware of.

Have just bought a Skinny phone
Model number ZTE V812
android version 4.4.2

No one can call me as the calls go straight to voicemail.
How can I receive calls directly?

Obviously, you should check call and voicemail settings on the phone. Assuming you've done that try contacting your service provider and have them check your voicemail settings.

go to settings, tap on "Back up and reset", tap on "reset network settings" and reset, this will fix your problem, dont worry, your not reseting anything to disrupt your phone

I've noticed messages about this topic going back years. It happened to me today (Aug 31, 2016), but intermittently (sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't) same person calling me, for all calls. I have an old Galaxy S3. Here's my take, on what's happening. It really isn't device dependent. Its partly the network's fault. Mostly is the programming. There is a procedure of when to go to voicemail. When a call is initiated, the network attempts to connect to the phone, and waits a predetermined timeout period, for a response (not from you, but from your phone). If your phone doesn't respond, the call is routed to the voicemail service. The carriers (AT&T, Verizion, ...) in an attempt to look speedy, and modern have trimmed those times so your phone doesn't hasn't time enough to respond, when tower traffic is heavy. Everything now is sent as digital data packets. It might be billed differently, but at the lower layers, its all data packets, which have variable latency. I see it more frequently, with my internet, because it also goes via a cell tower, and several sites view the delay, as me trying to block their ads, when its just plain slow data flow. Solution: carriers should expect slow data rates, and adjust their timeouts, accordingly. Will they do it - Fat chance. They're God, and I'm a peon.
