calls coming though smartwatch instead of phone

hey all
can anyone tell me why when my smartwatch is connected to my phone with bluetooth only my smartwatch rings , when i switch bluetooth of then they both ring.
all other notifications like whatsapp calls, texts and so on work fine with or without bluetooth
i know there is a setting in android wear to mute calls but that is OFF
