Camera App keeps crashing.....

I have been having issues with the camera app, opens up and then just shows a dark blank screen, can't click any button and force closing the app doesn't work, only restraining the phone fixes the issue. I have also seen the QR scanner doesn't work. For example if go messages app and in settings click messages for web to scan the QR code it doesn't work and just hangs. Same with trying to scan QR code for WhatsApp web. I don't know if the latest camera updates are causing the issues for me. I did even a complete factory reset and set up everything from scratch instead of restoring from back up to see if the issues goes away. But still same issues with the camera app and works fine after I restarted the phone.

Sounds like mine wasn't the only defective one. Just curious, what chargers have you used with it? Any USB-C chargers other than the one that came in the box?

I'm using Anker which is charging fast like one in the box
 
I am attempting to see if there are any "coincidences" among the users with this particular issue. I used a 30W "Turbo" charger that was designed for (an early version) of a Moto Z device, and the next morning, the camera died.

It shouldn't
 
I used the one that came with the box, pixel stand, other wireless charger like Samsung wireless chargers, anker power line USB C cable in the car.

Don't think I used anything else ... Actually I thought this was a common issue everyone was facing and they are going to fix in software or something. But now realizing that it might something in hardware, glad I posted and already got the replacement order processed. Will see how that one will go. Did you receive your replacement and the problem no longer exists?

Perhaps some permissions must be manually added to the message ap and other apps that request pics?
 
Here is the video showing what exactly happens. First I show camera working fine as you see on the screen, then I open messages app and select messages for web, select qr code and after that camera app is broken until I restart the phone. See video in link. Can anyone other than OP and myself, try and see if what I'm doing works for you?

I just set up Messages for Web. Scanning the QR Code worked just like it should. Camera continues to work as it should.

Awesome, good to know that you had the exact issue and replacement doesn't have that problem. Mine should be here Tuesday/Wednesday from Google store.
Yes. Since I bought from BestBuy, I walked into the store and immediately got a replacement. The problem has not re-occurred.
 
I wonder how many more had this defect. Was yours Clearly White? My original one was, but the replacement is Just Black. Was your defective one XL, like mine?
