Camera app recomendations from the Play store?

Since the below average camera performance is due to software, could installing a 3rd paty camera app from the Play store improve performance?

Has anyone here a good experience with a particular camera app that actually improved the Nexus 5's camera performance

Don' know about the Nexus, but I've personally used Camera ZoomFX and Camera 360 and both add a bevvy of features that make them stand apart from the stock app.

Focal will be awesome if they can ever get it to work with the nexus 5...that is a great app.

Camera zoom and camera 360 here as well. Slight improvement.

I am hopeful for this. In the meantime, the aforementioned apps will make do.
