When using the camera app 1/4 of the screen is black while 3/4 shows the image I am aiming at, is there a way to increase the viewable image in the display more? Seems silly that so much on the screen is dark.

Thanks in advance.

Steven

Change the aspect ratio in the camera settings from 4:3 to 16x9 or even 18x9.
4:3 is the default and also the highest resolution (quality). The larger you go and more screen you fill, the more quality you lose

dov1978 is right, however. . . . . if your only going to be viewing the captured images on your phones display then the quality you lose will barely be noticeable! Personally i have it set to 16:9 and its perfect ;-)

The resolution of 4:3 and 16:9 are the same. The only difference is the megapixels are lower in 16:9 because it is cropped.

Resolution is not the same. Resolution and megapixels are one and the same in this discussion. Lol. The 16x9 has slightly less resolution BECAUSE it's cropped. I personally always shoot in highest resolution offered on a device. Even if aspect ratio doesn't match. You never know if you might want to print a great photo into a 8x10 later on. If you do, you'll be glad you shot in highest megapixel mode and in 4x3 vs 18x9

If you truly just view on phone or social media than it won't matter, but why intentionally limit yourself?

I thought they were talking about viewing photos full screen on there phone, not printing photos.

I agree with what you said. Printing photos later is a different discussion though.
