After upgrading to froyo, ive had so many problems. MY camera never works and it randomly stops working for no reason. I've never rooted or did any of that. THe only way to fix this is to shut off and turn back on the phone which is really inconvienent because it takes about two mintues for the phone to turn back on. any thoughts

This one can be added to my list of bugs.
I went to use the camera tonight, at first everything looked great, focus worked way better than before, I press the camera button to take the pic, shutter sound from the speaker, preview on the screen, but no pic saved to the sdcard. Umteenth reboot today and it works.

I have ordered a replacement. Hope it isn't an already flaky one that was returned earlier.

Yeah you can duplicate the problem by taking about four pictures but deleting them as tyou take them. it will close the camera app and it wont let you open it unless you boot the phone again. i know its a software bug because the barcode scanner works

I never rooted, waited for the OTA 2.2, and my camera freaked out earlier tonite as well. Had to shut off phone, and restart it. Using the camera icon on my homscreen, or in my app drawer, would not restart the camera. I actually use my camera a good bit for work, so this is a major bummer for me. I don't think you should have to do a factory reset for your phone to work properly. It's ridiculous to believe that you have to reinstall all of your apps, just for an OS upgrade. I never had to do that on either of my iphones.

As an aside, my screen no longer lights up when I unplug my phone. Maybe a bug, maybe not. I'm not sure.

It's a software issue. The "unofficial 2.2." did the same thing and it seems that the official is doing it also. A new device wont fix the issue sorry to say.

go to applications, find camera and delete data and cashe (not the application!) and see if this helps,

I ran into this problem yesterday with my phone where I would click the camera icon and it would open & close immediately. I then opened the camcorder which worked, closed it and I was able to open the camera.

i am also getting several of the icon where a picture should be and the picture is 0.00kb in size. getting a little annoying. Arent these simple things vzw/moto should have been able to easily fix, not like they didnt have the time.

Coun me in.

I have to restart the phone in order for the camcorder to work. Crashes every time I hit record.

If it were a software issus why am I still having problems after a factory wipe? My software is the exact same copy everyone else got when they updated. The only other variable is the hardware.
Yes there are bugs, but one should not have to reboot their phone multiple times a day just to use it. If this were happening to everyone that updated then I would blame the software.

(On lunch at work right now, so don't have a lot of time to see if this was already mentioned somewhere. My apologies if it has been.)

I had issues with my camera yesterday as well while I was out kayaking. Sadly, nearly all of the photos I took were not saved.

When I got back home and plugged the phone into the computer, I noticed that there were two 'dcim' folders on the phones SD card, one in upper-case and one in lower-case. I had photos in both. It appeared that photos take pre-Froyo were in the uppercase folder while post-Froyo photos were in the lowercase folder.

I just copied all photos off of the phone, deleted both DCIM/dcim folders, then took a random pic with the camera. The phone recreated the 'dcim' (lowercase) folder. I copied my photos back to it, and so far (knock on wood) have not had the problem again. At work right now, so can't take too many photos without drawing attention to myself, but hopefully this will solve the issue until it can be actually fixed.

Flipster,

if clearing the camera cache does not fix the phone let me tell you how to fix this.
1. You must flash your phone back to 2.1. Do research and find a program called RSD Lite. There will be instructions on how to flash your phone back to stock.
2. Bring your phone back online with Verizon, Google Sync back your contacts, and upgrade OTA back to 2.2 official.

This WILL fix your problem. The problem stems from you installing 2.2 over your 2.1, with adjusted settings, apps and all their update patches. Bottom line, conflicts happen and jack up phone operations. When you start fresh with each upgrade, your phone will run optimally. Think of your phone as a mini computer and what you are doing is a reformatting of the hard drive before installing a new OS. Same concept.

I did the above after flashing back from 2.2 leaked. My phone has absolutely NO problems. I use my camera and video cam option a ton and there are no issues whatsoever.

Still no fix? Seems like the only solution is to reboot. This affects my camera and the camcorder app.
